what's the last year Small Block Chevy had a distributor?

i want to build a V8 where i can just

go get high performance parts and

quit worrying about blowing it up.

    have a nice day!

There are distributors across the nation still selling small block Chevy engines. Haha.

    yeppers!

i don't want to go round and round

eliminating stuff on a coil on plug engine.

then the old SBC's, well they're getting old!

getting harder to find good pieces, etc. etc.

    have a nice day!

you seriously must be on drugs

  8. Okay, then I guess I'm sorta figuring out your question.

You want the old style small block with the reliability of electronic ignition but you don't want the "coil on plug" design.

If this is what you're after you can go with an MSD Crank Trigger system. This has a distributor but is fired off a wheel on the crank.

just stock parts that can be

modified a little, no MSD or anything.

here's wikipedia on LT Generation II GM V8.

'The early Optispark distributor had durability problems and a revised version was introduced with vacuum vents to remove moisture on the 1994 B-Bodies and in 1995 on the Y and F-Bodies; the vacuum vents can be added onto earlier distributors.'

that's like '92-93, so when was last GM small block with distributor?

    have a nice day!

I think the Gen IIs were pretty much it and probably the last thing I'd pick to build. What's wrong with a good old fasioned 350? Seems like you are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

    hamber's

    good ole' wikipedia.

'The LS engine also introduced coil-near-plug ignition to replace the distributor setup of all previous small-block based engines.'

oh man, before they got to that part

it was aluminum block and 4 bolt mains!

ok, for now it'll be LT engine, that'll

    be a big improvement!

    have a nice day!

  17. As you posted before, the LT engines have "Optispark". A real piece of shit and a royal pain in the ass to work on. An LT engine would be the last small block I'd consider using.

we are all now dumber for reading this thread!

  20. I just changed a distributor in a 2001 GMC 3500 van.
I'm almost certain that everything got the ls based motor for 2002.

At least 1998, possibly up to 2000, ( maybe even newer)the Chevy full size trucks still used a dist. In the 'old' body style 'work trucks' (I.e. the plain Jane trucks, not the silverado's).

first step is admitting you have a problem...

    Attached Files:

  23. 1992 was the last year of the conventional distributor in a small bock Chevy in Camaro's etc. 1993 is when they went to the Opti Spark (92 in Corvette's)
For Trucks it was late 98 when the Silverado came out with the LS motor
The T400 Classic which was sold as a fleet truck only and G series van stayed with the Gen 1 small block through 2002.

So if you can find one a 2002 Van or T400 Classic would be that last Small Block Chevy with a conventional distributor

what's the way to run an LS?

that is without bringing all the

    computers and sensors with it.

also so it's running 'good' not

    shooting yourself in the foot!:)

    have a nice day!

  26. LS has to have a computer to run, either OE or an aftermarket - no way practical way around it

They do make kits to mount a distributor on those. Kind of funky though.

  29. You can run a carb on an LS engine and eliminate most of the electronics.
