This followed me home today..... a beside the barn find.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by chopped51, Aug 14, 2012.

  1. Long story short...........
I picked up an old Dodge a while back in fantastic condition, minus running gear. I think it's ugly but I cant stand to see an old car go to waste. It is 100 percent rust free. Never seen anything like it. Still shinny paint in the trunk and on the floors. It missing most of the trim and the whole grill.

Now fast forward....... talking to a buddy I haven't seen in a couple years. He tells me he has one behind the barn, it's been sitting for years. It still runs! It is complete but rusted out, bad. Flinstone bad.
Anyway I went and picked it up today. I'll start stripping my parts off tomorrow.
I'll let the pictures tell the story.

Those last couple pics are rad. I like 4 doors with all the accesories and visor. Kinda got an old bomb vibe.

  5. What running gear do you have in that Merc truck? I once had one with a flathead that would barely pull itself.

Nice parts hauler! As someone has allready said, this is totally looking like a Bomb* in the making.

*Note to self: Does my name suddenly go in some TSA Database for questionable persons because I suggested the build for this car follow a certain style guideline?

  10. Thanks guys. I'm kinda thinking "bomb" as well. There are none here. Nobody would know how to take it.

Truck is running a 350 Vortec and 4L60.

It takes a BIG car to make that truck look small.

  18. I wish! It's smaller than an S10 inside. They just look big because of the fat fenders. They really aren't big trucks.
I must be getting old. I consider the Dodge a "mid size" car.

    Sweet M-1 too!!!

  23. Another one bites the dust. Always brings a tear to my eye. So much history gone forever.
She gave me lots of great parts. I pretty much gutted it. Even pulled the dash and steering wheel.

could have taken off the window stainless trim and made some bucks on ebay.

  26. I tried. It was so rusty you wouldn't believe it. I couldn't even roll the windows down to get the sunshades off. Had to break the guts out of the doors.

  27. Did that nice trunk lid get scrapped, too??

The one you are putting the parts on, is it a 4 door as well? Because if it's not, I'd be interested in those vent shades for my '40.

  29. Yes, the trunk lid was scraped. To rusty on the inside braces.
Squablow, yes the one I'm building is a 48' 4 door. Almost identical. I plan on using the vent shades. The car is so ugly, it needs all the help it can get.

Pictures can be deceiving. I'm sure there was a lot more rust lurking under that car. Even from here those rockers looked completely toasted. Oh well, you tried. Now it will show up as a Harbor Freight something or other in its second life. Didn't feel like cutting out the rear end or glass & stainless?
