In this day and age of everything being over the top, I decided to build a truck a little different. With all the "shock rods" and over done customs that have been altered just for the sake of changing things I felt like the true beauty of the classics is being lost. So this is my omage to the past. Now keep in mind this is an ongoing project with a lot left to do. But it is coming along. Currently running the original 216/3spd set up. 4 inch Sid's dropped axle in front with modern tie rod conversion. I also removed the 4th and 6th from the top leaves. In the back I'm running a set of 3 inch drop blocks also from Sid. It has stock steelies and caps with 215/70R16 tires. I chose radials after a lot of research and advice from fellow hambers. Future plans include a 235/T5 combo with open drive rear end conversion. Also a recovered stock bench. The bed currently has a steel floor installed by the previous owner. I plan to take it back to wood and stainless. Other than that there are some smaller detail issues that need taken car of, then she will be done. And a shot of mine and the other MidKnights rides at a local show last weekend.
Truck looks good, I like the minimalist scheme. I did have to scroll a lot to see a little bit at a time. I've seen smaller pictures on display at The Louvre...........
Great job. You just can't go wrong with gloss black w/ black walls and steelies...on just about anything !!!
I agree also. I see way more "messed up" old cars than un-messed with ones. Nice truck you have there.
It would be nice if this clean, understated look became the new fad, wouldn't it? The anti-rat rod, as it were...
That truck is very smooth. I am a firm believer in less is more. I hope my 54 turns out half as slick as your truck.
Man I love that truck..... I'm not compairing my truck to your truck as they are different styles but the same mindset. I have worked very hard on getting proportions just right, keeping things simple and easy to maintain while integrating some more modern features (cause I'm a big wuss....read A/C). While keeping the gobs of modifications sterile and well thought out and not overdone. That said my paint will be a bit more bright in direct violation of your mindset....but there aint nothing wrong with either. I've always said it takes more skill to know when to stop than it is to build for the sake of building. Brian Bass is one of my heros (read Man Crush) for doing just that over and over. Good job, I think it would be neat to see both of our trucks parked side by side someday.
Looks great. The picture of you standing next to it is cool. There are several HAMB cars that are black on black with black rims and small caps ... its a very cool look.
Once she's done I want to tackle a vintage camp trailer so I can take it to shows and not have to pay for hotels.
Very clean and tidy. Less is more and just as often, more is less. I've got a '48 Chevy waiting its turn in storage. It's more of a street rod underneath (Z out back, coil springs, Monte Carlo IFS) and will be just about the same stance as yours, maybe a tad lower but it'll have tasteful wheels/tires and a nice '60's 283. Your truck is definitely inspiration!* Mm! Black on black..
