Help!! Before I screw up the bearings, I need help. Lifters, intake, distributor, timing chain, all out of motor. Oh yah-it's a late seventies SBC. Gently pulling it forward with timing gear back on it for a handle. It only slides out about 1.5 inches or so. Spin it slowly/gently-still won't come out!
    Any takers????!!!!!

Yep, did you remove the fuel pump is what Squirrel is refering to. Push rod will slide down by it's self.

I did dumber... I flipped out to a degree after changing rockers on my Lincoln.. Had the valve cover off checking oil flow and it was backfiring...

Oh shit, what did I do?

I zip tied the spark plug wires in a way that they were cross firing. Doh!

Geez, ok!, let me put it this way. Theres no need to remove the plate behind the pump, the rod should slide down on it's own. Use a flash light if needed to see if said rod has slide down. If not, get back with MoparMan.

HOLY SHIT!!! I tried pulling the one out of my spare motor and it came right out-tried it again on my motor in car.Nope. Then looked closer at the lobes on the one I pulled out of the other motor. There's a WAY rounded off lobe on that one, toward the front. WAIT-that block has no FUEL PUMP on it!
Pulled the pump, tried it, came right out!
Have a victory smoke.......come in the house and tell my totally uninterested daughter......sat down to the hamb......and if I had only sat here a little longer the first time-SQUIRREL WOULD HAVE FREAKED ME THE HELL OUT!!!!
is there any question why I love you guys????????
Thanks again, next time I'll wait for the replies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lmao...you should have seen me the first time I tried to take the heads off a 283 when I was 14. Did you know there are some more bolts hiding under all that sludge?

I've seen a couple of heads over the years that were "removed" with that row of bolts still in the block. Word was that the guy removing one of them needed a large pry bar to break it loose.

Good to see that you got the cam out Plowboy13. That's called an educational experience.
