Gently scratch the top of the tape with a red scotchbrite. Watch your stainless, just try to hit the tape and open it up a bit. Soak it in good ol fashioned mineral spirits. Keep it wet, maybe do it a few times. It'll come right off and not hurt anything else. W/out getting it too hot, a little warmth before the mineral spirits helps sometimes.
Ditto what hispeedlowdrag said.......you will not damage paint, good for taking off bumper stickers, decals, tar spots etc...good stuff.
dont use wd 40.i like wax% grease remover. If you ever repaint wd40 will cause fisheyes, and it seems to get everywhere.
I use Ronsonol, but it's all Naphtha. Also good for removing price stickers from books etc. Let it soak, gently peel away with a blade......
This is what I used in the navy to remove adhesive residue from aircraft canopys that cost over 200,000 dollars. It is called alphatic naptha and you can usually pick it up in gallons in some hardware stores cheaper that zippo lighter fluid.
This. And next time use a good quality autobody tape, it can be in place for 2years and still come off easy.
Take what brand of remover you buy and soak a paper towel with it. lay on the offending surface and let IT do the work. Come back later and wipe easily away.
I usually knock the broad out with a 2X4 before pulling the tape... keeps the screaming down and doesn't draw attention.
funny this comes up now. i just spent 3 days scraping tape off the trim of a car i put on 2 yrs ago. that crap sat in the sun for atleast a yr.i used everything i could think of and NOTHING worked. so i ended up keeping a rag of thinner runnin up and down the trim followed by a razorblade.dumbass me scratched it up some. ive never done anything so stupid!!!!!!!!!!!! well i have but im not telling you.
Buy an keep handy a can of Goo be Gone and you will love it. I do, just don't care for the smell of it but it works.
