Proud new owner of a 71 Chevelle, only problem is I'm not quite sure what it is running, beyond the basics.... My numbers are:

Partial Vin/ Code- 16S106183 / V0821CKT (I'm 98% it is a C and not a 0, O or D in the suffix)
Block- 3970010
Date- H205
Composition- 010, 020, 178

I've seen the Z28 site-
CKT 1972 350 tur hydramatic LT1 255 4 Z28

But the date stamp says 5.... 65' or 75'. That casting wasn't made in 65 (i think) and I don't think they were making engines for a 72 in 75?

Thecamaroguy.com said this-
<table class="pgtable" border="1"><tbody><tr><td>1970
</td> <td>Chevelle
</td> <td>396cid, Manual Trans.
</td> <td>375
</td> <td>
CKT
</td> </tr> <tr> <td>1970
</td> <td>Nova
</td> <td>396cid, Manual Trans. With Aluminum Heads.
</td> <td>375hp
</td> <td>
CKT
</td></tr></tbody></table>
This excited the shit out of me, but also furthered my confusion.

I can't find the suffix OKT, DKT, ect... I've tried the combos and none of it makes sense.
Thank you guys for any and all help! It's much appreciated!

CKT from 1976 is...hiding from me. They used a couple that were close that I can find, CKU and CKW and CKY.

It is definitely a 1976 model year engine, with that partial VIN.

And it is a small block guys, look at the block casting number

I believed you about what the number say....but there were a lot of engine codes in the 70s, sometimes the books don't have everything.

By that time there wasn't much difference in the 350 engines, they were pretty much all low compression smog motors. Trucks had 4 bolt mains, Vettes might have, or maybe not.

I don't think the letters are going to change, unless you do some real photoshopping.

Engine casting is 69\79 350 cu.in. Date casting of H205 is sept. 20 1975 which was probly installed in a 1976 vehicle . CKT [if correct] shows as a 72 Camero.

Like Squirrel said you have a basic 350 engine .That block was used from 68 to 79 in a lot of cars and trucks. About the only difference would be the ones put in trucks were 4-bolt mains. Heck if it runs good don't worry about it. I don't think there were enough Covettes made to account for everybody that claims theres came out of a Vette.

How much horse power do you think this thing has of now? You suppose it's a 5.7 L? I have some Magnaflow delta 40's on the way, and as soon as I pin down what kind of headers I need, they will be en rout as well.

Only upgrades I can see-

Edlebrock 1406
Edlebrock Performer intake
Red fan

Bare with me guys, I'm by far no motor head so bare with me, decided this would be a cool hobby after I got out of the Army.

You kind of need to find a nice muscle car forum to hang out at...we don't really do this "late model" (post 1964) stuff here.

The casting number means it's a 350 block. that's 5.7 L for the young-uns.

Factory hp was 160-210 depending on carb and cam.
