We had one of the first dragsters

Discussion in 'New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!' started by David Butler, Apr 22, 2008.

  1. Big Jim Alspaugh, Doc Porter and I bought a partially finished dragster from Frank Held in 1956. We were all members of the original Pipers Hot Rod Club in Columbus, Ohio. What a bunch of great memories.!

I would really appreciate any emails from my friends of 50 years ago.

ps... David you might consider changing your "location" in your profile to be your town and state and not your actual address. click on "manage your account" and then under "Settings & Options" on the left of the page, click "Edit Profile" and type in just the city. state where you are.

    again, Welcome to the board

Welcome David. I was a friend of Bob Daniels in the last few years. You must be in this picture from HRM?

Hi David. My friend is rebuilding Your old dragster. With a flathead as it had when Frank Held built it, not with a 354 Chrysler that You had in it at Detroit Nationals 1959. Email him at: [email protected] He would love to hear more history about it, and maybe see some pictures.

Finally a member. Daves dragster was in Hot Rod Magazine September 58, and hot Rod Yearbook 1960. It was called Showrail, and had a flathead then. I own it now and will restore it as close as possible as it was in HRM 58. Hope I can add some pictures later.

Here is one picture when it had a flathead, and one from Detroit Nationals 59 when it had a 354 Hemi, Dave Butler driving. It was called Little Wisdom in 59. Would love to see more photos of the dragster.

At Detroit Nationals it run in B/D class, it had # 198. It had a 354 Hemi with fuel injection. It will have a Ford flathead as it had from the beginning.
