  1. I know it was an altered by the rules. I was going by our acceptance of gassers as being a style of car more than what it uses as a fuel. The car certainly fits the style of car that we call a gasser.

Funny but the mustang that I posted does not even resemble a "gasser" as most consider when they think of one, but it was a genuine gasser, and a winning one at that.

It was easy to class up but next to impossible to class down. For example High n Mighty was an Altered and Altered was considered a professional class at the time where gas class at the time was a street legal class.

There is a down side to doing so, you can out class yourself. I may roll into the local track and enter altered in my gas coupe thinking I can bring home the trophy and then have someone roll in with an altered and hand me my hat.

I have watched it happen time and time again at vintage races. Guys running 15 and 16 second passes running in gas coupe/sedan.They are trying to run with fellas running 10s and low 11s. They for all intents and purposes should be running in stock class.

Well now we are way off topic.

Sorry fellas I just had a question and then went off on a tangent.

Plus most of the guys spend a lot of time goofing off and showboating with big burnouts and stuff now so engine temp is a factor. Changing weather conditions will make you work for your passes on gas. I think Gas class cars should be on gas. JMO. Just like the new Jr. fuel should be on nitro, not fingernail polish remover.

  10. I actually never would have considered that gas class was anything but gas for a fuel. It was actually new informaton to me.

Well the thread is not about rules it is about what kind of car you like best or what car you like best, I think.

Hey PB, You know we always de-rail threads around here it's our job!!:D Lippy (traditional gasser) in Ks.:D And my favorite gasser was Mazmanians candy red chopped austin.

  12. I am appalled that there are not more Henry J lovers here. Ya know I don't think I know of a single famouse Henry J.

Mazmanians foot ball was as slick a car as he ever owned. Somewhere I have seen a video of it making a pass.

Yeah, that is kinda weird I can't think of one either. Was always a ton of them running back in the day though. Most were SBC powered can't remember a blown hemi one. I'm sure there was but... One of my favorite Henry-J's was Oh, Henry, and Henrietta. :D Lunch over gotta run, have a great day. Lippy (You know nitro on corn flakes is really good!) Keeps the bugs off ya too. :)

  14. Actually the one I was thinking about originally ran an injected olds. Well it wasn't really a J it was an alstate.

yea I have blow the day completely away. off on an adventure myself.

Boy that's a nice 55. Was it running alky? Lippy

  20. NOT a Gasser

  21. You know, I remember a lot of Henry J's running locally, but I don't think there were ANY National Level record holder type henry J's that I can think of.
And of course the "football" was an Austin

Not a Legal Gasser from what I can see - way over the 10% engine setback rule.

  22. Oh, I'll throw one in too.....

  24. Actually The Weekender was a record holder I think set it in '72. I didn't even think of it until you mentioned Nat'l record holders. I don't believe I have a pic of it that I can lay my hands on easily.

    Maybe someone has a pic.

But that is the only one that I can rally think of.

Hell it aint even got an engine look how high the front sets up. :D

    Thanks

My brain just said hillman when I looked at it. So I figured I better ask.

Now if it was an alky burner it would have big gold leafed letters saying "Golden Muscatel" on the doors. Well duh.

Could be a little newer. Here it is in 2005. Dave McCauley (he's a member here) found it and "sorta" headed it back toward original, but I think the original color was red.
