Ridler Wheels....How are they?

  1. Ridler Wheel Co. has a neat new item out on the market, the 695 series that looks similar to an exaggerated D spoke wheel. I think they run from 15" on up to 20" hoops.
I looked at some in West Springfield at the Goodguys show.
Price was very reasonable, box was stamped made in China ( Sigh, ohh well...) but they did appear well constructed.
    Anyone have experience with them?
Good, bad, indifferent?? Do they run-out true? Can they be balanced?
My old '47 Ford needs new hoops and these may work for the budget I'm on.

    Ridler 695 Series Wheels

    2many projects -

The Ridler 695 series wheels only come in 18" and 20" sizes.

Are you sure you're asking this question on the correct forum?

PS, those Chinese Superbell knockoffs looked well constructed, too...

  11. Just read a spam thread about spray on chrome, and now we got cheap wheels from China.
Although i dont live in America, i do know the difference in quality.
I buy American when i can. Seems theres to much cheap knock off stuff about today.

    How are they?

    Not so good.

  16. I've seen them and they are nice for the price. They guys on here will bash them of course but they would work great on the right car.

As with all wheels, size, proportion and stance are everything.

It has already been stated with proof that casting work is now primarily done in China because it is cheap and there aren't as many restrictions on the type and quality of cast. The centers of those wheels are cast, and I for one wouldn't want to be in or near a car running on a set of those things, due to the possibility that one of the cast centers may be a weak cast, and the wheel might come apart. I've always been sketchy about a cast wheel center anyway, and it has to be a nice thick cast for me to be comfortable with it. Those could be 8 inches thick and I wouldn't be comfortable with it.

Dude, there are sooooo many vintage American-made wheels out there just looking for a car to live under. I've got access to a nice set of Foresight Ventures Drag Mags I'll sell you for about what you would spend on this crap. This isn't a "buy American" stance, though I support that 100%. This is a "don't kill yourself and someone else in the process" stance.

The Ridler 675 looks more like a traditional wheel, it comes in 15".

Hate to say it, but many new alloy wheels are made in China, including American Racing Torque-Thrusts for at least the last few years. Chinese made doesn't always mean poor quality, it all depends on the company who's selling them's QA...

That said, I wouldn't buy 'em.

    Wrong forum dude. Popcorn anyone?

  24. I realize we all have our own opinions on this board and I'm sorry I've opened up such a can of worms.
Still though............does anyone have real honest experience with these wheels, good or bad?
I've had issues with some USA manufactured wheels and some were perfectly acceptable. I've also owned many wheels over the past 50 years that came from salvage yards and they gave me no problems.
I've had both good and bad wheel rims, and same with tires.
Some could be balanced and ran out true and other were shit right out of the box.
I only wanted to know if anyone had real first time experience with these new Chinese knock-offs.

At 65 years old now it's getting tiring dragging home rusty rims from swap meets and recycling centers spending time in the dirt behind the garage sandblasting the things, then painting them and mounting new tires, than only to find out they shake or crack and crumble on the first bad New England road they roll down.

Sometimes buying NEW pays off no matter who manufactures them.

For what it's worth, all my cars except one all run traditional looking rims.
I've only purchased one set of mag style wheels and that was a set of M/T Raiders in 1966 for my old Corvette, and that was BEFORE they were considered VINTAGE.

I am still a steel rims and caps guy at heart but sometimes I think I need a refreshing change.

I was told by a pretty reliable person that they were the lower end 1 piece range for American Racing Wheel . Have seen their Weld Dragstar copy and it looks good and apparently balanced just fine . I dont know how much power you could put through them , would be an interesting test to do though !

  27. Better off with the radir wheels but im jus sayin!

well ive not run that brand of wheel but i did run some knock offs from china awhile back and you couldnt balance them worth a shi-.and the chrome was super thin. like do not wash or the chrome will be in the driveway.but they were used when i got them didnt keep them long at all.but i know what you mean about wheels and budget. damn i still think 179.00 is to much for a set of 15x4.5 cragarss wheels but im still stuck in the 70s.sad but true.
