Back in 1970, my dad junked our old station wagon. I went with him to the junkyard but was left outside to play. I spied a little junk convertible with no wheels or engine setting on the ground. I climed up on it and was amazed how easily it dented. It was so much fun to dig my heel into it that I did it repeatedly. Several years later I got the car bug and started reading car magazines. It was then that I recognized that convertible...a shelby cobra. Oops. Now, every time I have a car problem, I suspect it is linked to having bad car karma.
You really must have nothing to do. Go check this thread out, might tickle your fancy. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=701203 What is this board coming to.
Sorry man, but I can't imagine a Shelby Cobra in a junkyard. A Shelby Mustang... MAYBE, but NOT a Cobra.
Awe, I see them all the time in junkyards! You gotta walk a few more rows, they usually put them right after the Tucker section.
Yeah I doubt any Shelby Cobras ever ended up in a Junkyard simply because of the survival rule. Simple rule: If a specific car has pretty much always been worth money and in demand, then most of them survived. Some cars have ALWAYS (Or almost always) been worth money and ALWAYS been in demand so they tended to escape being crushed. Almost every example that I can think of applies to OT European stuff, but Tri-Five Nomads, Tuckers, Cord 812s, etc fall under this category. Kinda OT to the discussion but it's interesting when you think about it... some cars have huge survival rates for a reason.
Karma is NOT bullshit. Didn't you ever see Disneys "My Mother the Kar" ? Every little car needs a good kar ma. And some even get foster kar mas.
A jerk I once knew had a chopped '32 sedan, old drag car. It was gutted, all painted white inside...sheet metal was nice, chopped 5". He took it to the crusher, just to see a '32 get crumpled. No kidding, 1973. He knew better, he was a bodyman. (metal man, not bondo sculptor)
As a high school kid, we always messed around with 65 mustangs. Bought one with an ugly interior, it was two toned with horses and a bench seat...ewww, yuck. Threw that right in the trash...who would have known. And yes, it was an aluminum bodied Cobra. There was no hood, no wheels, no brakes, no engine, no trans, I think there were seats in it...I dont remember any body damage. It was up front, right behind the main office, not out in the yard. It was 1969 or 1970. Back then they were selling for $2500 used.
The car may not have been a Cobra but it's base, an AC ACE. This add has been around for a while so the car is probably long gone. http://bringatrailer.com/2009/01/03/basketcase-project-1961-ac-ace-bristol-roadster/
i dont know....i have buddy that has the worst luck ive ever seen with cars/trucks...its not that he's not a good wrench or doesnt spend the money,,and he buys good parts..weird random things go wrong with his builds..parts that should never break,do. i told him years ago he was cursed....
Even in 1970 a Cobra would not be sitting outside of a junkyard with no wheels/engine. Not even in Kansas. I seriously doubt an AC would be either.
