    Thanks MrDodge.

I will be picking up more panels today after a sleep! I have organised one of my shift mates, that used to be an Automotive electrician, to come over on Wednesday and coach me a bit on the loom and sparky stuff! I have already had the loom in the chassis, with one of my club mates (a retired sparky) but he is busy building a new shed for his toys.

I may try our other camera too. I am getting sick of the pictures being dark on the edges because the cover is not fully opening.

  3. Is your other camera a coloured one?

  4. No,carry posting the black and white photo's as that is adding to the suspense of guessing what colour it is. I have subscripted also and altough I wouldn't be able to get up to Whangavegas for the show,I am looking forward to the grand unveiling here on the site for all our friends that don't live in NZ. Keep up the progress story and b&w photo's as I am enjoying the story so far.
    Cheers Whip.

Thanks for your positive reinforcement Whip!

You and me both Sterling! I hope to bring it down your way sometime, to attend one of the workshop weekends at Magoo's.

Kind of! Its a silvery color, a bit like the other one, but the lens cover opens properly!!

Had a busy ole day today. I went to my parents place and used Dad's lathe to spin up a fitting to go into the trans for a dipstick tube. I am using a flexible dipstick from a Mk 1 Ford Escort, and will use a piece of rubber hose for the outer. I need it to be flexible to fit in the tight spaces, an original steel tube one just wont fit!

I wanted to use the original hold down clip and will use an O ring to seal it. I used a spare trans case to set it up on.

I also did some machining on the knuckle arrangement for the front end. I was not happy with the spherical joints that I used being exposed to the elements, so have made some rubber covers for them. Sorry no pictures of them yet.

This afternoon we went to the paint shop to check on progress, and there will be more panels to pick up tomorrow, including the dash, which is handy, because I started to lay out the wiring loom. Firstly on the bench then into the car. I have managed to run most of the wires to their new homes, and have a workmate that used to be an Auto sparky coming over on Wednesday to make a start.

Another visit to town in the morning for some grade 8 bolts for the front end. But I might leave that off the car while we wire and the car is up in the air.

Welcome along boys! Good to see you here! I think its 38 days to go now.....or something like that.

A bit of a messed up day today. I made a trip into town (always a good way to waste about 5 hours!!) and ended up geting a warrant of fitness for the club trailer, which took the better part of an hour! But took the oportunity to distribute posters for the show to a bunch of sponsors and even managed to appologise to one of them for spelling their company name wrong!! My BAD!

I did get to the painter and pick up some more panels and to the upholsterer for the shfter and e brake covers. They look pretty damn good too. Real leather! I am glad there isn't too much need for lots of that in the car. I never did get around to asking how much!!

Yesterday I made a start on the loom, laid it out on the bench.

Then into the car and start to unravel it all and try to remember how it all went in the last time we had it in.

Luckily I took the time to label all the different bunches and hang them together in logical groups!! i will get the dash back by Thursday which will make it a bit easier to lay everything out better.

When my boy got home from school we put the front valance panel on and fastened it down with S/steel bolts, I had originally planned to rivet it on but decided I liked the idea of being able to remove it with out using a drill!

While in town today I went to see progress on the engine. It is looking Tasty! Trev found a pin hole on the casting of the intake manifold, above the water outlet neck. So I took it over to a welder friend so he could TIG it up for me. Better to find it now than when its in the car!

Thats it for now! Tune in same time, same place tomorrow for an update!

Today I took two steps back and made some Lemonade! A few years ago I made the pedal box and Master cylinder mount. Then a couple of weeks ago I realised that the M/C was only a single, and our regulations call for a dual. A click on Speedway motors.com later and my dual arrived in the post.

In order to make the new one fit i had to change from through bolt mounts on the single, to a flange mount for the dual. my angle grinder bearing crapped out half way on the job, so i had lots of filing today! I went in to dads and bored the hole in the flange plate and then proceeded to cut a slot in the side of the box section that the mount is made from. The flange is then slid in through the slot and welded into position. A little more trimming to fit the bleed screws on the side and Voi La! Tis done!

Now I need to work out how to do the reservior mounts to keep them above the M/C. The reserviors supplied wth the M/C are tall and have the outlet coming way out the bottom. I will look at manufacturing something to do the job that has the out-let coming out the bottom in a flat manner, rather than vertical. I don't like the idea of the hoses going down, then up, then down again.

I picked up the seats and an internal panel from paint today also. The seats will go to the upholsterer next week when I am off shift.

I have our club AGM today and will be picking up the dash and some more panels from paint. Sparky is coming on Tuesday for a spell of wiring.

Love the fabrimacation goin' on here. I've been slowly collecting parts over the last 10 plus years to build a lightweight torsion bar hot rod. Sooo this is very inspirational!

This, however, may be the coolest pic you've put up.
It's the perfect visual for the old "I just cut away everything that didn't look like a ______" line.

Will do! More tomorrow. I have the dash panel in my hot little hands now, so will be working on that.

I love to sculpt in steel. it is such a forgiving medium to work with.

I got the wiring loom from your side of the equator! I wanted it all black to help make it dissapear into the black chassis paint. I did not want to run the wires inside the rails for a couple of reasons. Opening the frame up to rust inside is not my idea of fun and I did not want to create weak points in the chassis either. The wires are all labelled every 6 inches with small white writing any way.

I will put your vote in the ballot box ready for the sweepstake draw to be held soon! 32 Days left on the clock!!!!!

I was just kidding, i thought they were in color an dthe pic came out like a black and white pic and the colors were just washed out.

Another trip into town today, after sleeping off a night shift! Picked up my Odyssey battery.....Ouch! But I had to go for one of these as I did not have the room required for a standard type of battery. 3"x6"x7" and can be laid on it's side.

I spent some time putting bits and pieces onto the dash panel and then bolted it into the chassis ready for the sparky to visit in the morning.

While in town I left one seat with the upholsterer for him to do his magic with some more leather and foam. He is concerned at the comfort of the seats and a lack of padding behind the back. We even discussed putting some padding into one of my club jackets! The jackets have a zipper at the bottom of the inside of the back panel, to enable the sewing machine to do the embroidered club logo on the back. We talked about an insert to wear inside there for additional padding! I guess only time will tell!!

Trevor discovered a pinhole in the intake manifold water jacket, so i had Glen weld this up, but in the process he had to weld on a machined surface too. This is no big deal as we have a jig made to hold the manifold in a mill for some previous machining. So that is away with Earl at the machine shop at the bottom of the hill. The manifold is just about the last piece of the engine puzzle too.
I saw Trevor at the club AGM yesterday and he said that he has rebuilt the carb and it was in really good condition. I was pleased to hear that, as I bought it at a swap meet about 20years ago and it has been sitting unused ever since. The carb is a 465cfm Holley 4bbl vacuum secondaries with no choke. A friend of mine used to run the same type of carb on his 215 Buick many years ago, and it was a perfect combo.

Back at it again today. Yesterday I fitted up the dashboard and guages ready for the sparky today. He did arrive and we discussed things for a while, then he climbed right on in and started to sort out some mains power and the ignition circuit. I concentrated on the front left corner where the headlight and fan relays live.

We are running relays for the headlights and fan. The main feed for these will come directly from the alternator through a fuse to the relay. This is because the alternator is right beside the relay.

From here I ran all the wires for the front lights. High and low beams, turn signal, parkers and ground. The lights I have chosen, use a hollow mounting bolt to run the wires inside and outa site. But I have mounted the turn signals under the headlights. To fit all 5 wires though the bolts was a mission......but not an impossible one! I ended up using a slightly lighter guage wire on the turn signal lamp feeds, but they are only small accessory H/D bike lights with low draw. I may even replace the bulb with bright LED ones in the future, needing even less current.

I can't wait to get it all clipped into position and get rid of the rats nest!

    NEWSFLASH!

The body is in paint! First coat of color is on, ready for sanding and recoating again this week! Yehaa! More time on wiring today and a couple of brackets for the start solenoid and battery hold down.

  22. I think and will guess the colour to be a cream to very light yellow colour. It is coming together very well and I'm excited to see the finished car now.

Can I put them out of their misery? I still don't think the 2 tone pink colour scheme was the right choice, but each to their own.

Today was more on the wiring job. Most of the day was spent pulling wires and rerouting them, to put them in better looms. A little demoralising to undo stuff, but I want it done right!!!
Much happier with how it is all looking tonight.
I also made up a new multi colored lens for in behind the centre of the dash for the warning lights. I glued a bunch of little bits of colored perspex together and then cut them to size and carefully polished them. This piece then sits in behind the dash panel with lights shining through the perspex. You can see the 5 holes just below the speedo in the centre of the dash.

I made another bracket to hold the indicator/turn signal module and the ballast for the coil too.

I have used pieces of solid core household wire for twisties around the looms for now. They allow me to add or remove wires to the looms as I go. I will be using plastic cable ties when the job is done to finsh off. They will be at about 2" spacing, everywhere.

Gotta' tell Ya, this thing is outragous! Following the build as I progress with mine. Yours is way more refined. Keep bangin'. I can't wait to see it on the wheels and painted up.
