The block is a '62-'65 two bolt main 327 that was used in cars and trucks with a horsepower range of 250-375

Heads are '76-'87 350 heads. The website I'm looking at said these are "crack prone"

HC suffix is '65 275 horse 327 with powerglide used in full-size Chevrolet.

Yep, it didn't matter if they came out of a two ton truck they automatically change into Corvette engines when they get swapped into anything that didn't come with a sbc V8 from the factory.

from Henry29 said above it looks like you have a pretty nice little 327 that is a good base for a butt kicking engine in that car.

from what little research I've done, it is apparent that Chevrolet used the same block and often head casting in many applications, Corvettes among them. If I recall, Corvettes and truck engine often used similar components, though I could be wrong there. It's pretty easy to look up a block casting number and surmise that it is from a Corvette, when in reality it could have easily come from a truck or other passenger car. I have a set of ramshorns....one is without doubt from a Corvette (according to the details listed in the book I read anyway), while the other could have been, but might not be, and in truth probably isnt.
When you consider the amount of parts interchange Chevy did, and the number of Corvettes produced compared to the number of trucks and other vehicles that used the same parts, the likelihood that a part came off a Vette is pretty small.

I want to know were all the wrecked corvettes are that are missing engines. That would be an awesome bone yard to pick.

I had Vette valve covers on a '62 Impala back in the 80's. Never once mis-led it's heritage. At first sight, the uninitiated (younger crowd usually) would give it the "Whoa!" reaction. I'd just smile...:D. 283/2bbl/4speed, those valve cover were good for at least 100 visual horse.... :D

Something else to consider the entry level Vette motor was often the high output full sized engine from the same year. Valve covers aside...

Good example would be the 300 horse 350 in 1969.....

Ironically, i bought a 56 gmc once, with a frozen 283 2 barrel. i yanked it, and dumped the engine out back for a couple years. One day, for a kick, i checked the suffix code, and it came up as a 245 horse, dual four 61 or 62(don't remember) 283 block. sold it for a hundred bucks.

Back when they had the rotogravure section in the middle of Hot Rod Magazine and SBC's were getting popular to put in rods every rod that had a Chevy V8 had a "Corvette engine" Some years there were less than a thousand Corvettes built but there were three thousand hot rods with that year of Corvette engines running around. And a pair of new Corvette valve covers was under 30.00 at the local Chev garage's parts counter.

1953, 1955 and 1983 were the only year models that Corvette PRODUCTION was "less than a thousand". About 72 "Pilot cars" (for the up-coming '84 MODEL) were built from August '82 'til late spring of '83 (NONE were ever released to the public), when the actual 1984s were released to the public. Very true, I just ask them why it has a 305cu harmonic balancer on it, if it's a 383cu.:)

^^ real corvette engine. I know because I have the corvette that matches it. I'm gonna tell people it came out of a Nova.

  26. I found the original engine from my 62 Vette in a 49 Chev PU.

The 49 owner told me for years it was a 327 Vette engine but it did have solid lifters.
yea.. yea.. yea..... I've heard it all before.
After he wrecked it, I was dumbfounded when I checked the numbers.

My 62 wagon has a late model 350, Corvette valve covers and a dual snorkel air cleaner. Isn't that a Corvette engine? LOL.
