I need some advise. I'm installing a SBC in a Model A frame. The motor is at a 3 degree pitch backwards. I can NOT raise the transmission any further due to the cross member and I can NOT lower the front due to the rack-n-pinion. Is there ANY way to place the carburetor LEVEL ?? Do they make an angled base plate for a Q-Jet carburetor?? I figured there is a 7/32" slant on the carburetor pad. Or Am I making a BIG deal out of nothing........................??? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance, Mike
The manifold has roughly 3* machined into it to sit level when the engine is at 3*. If I understand this correctly, you Will have 6* in the oil pan rail or crank/trans out put shaft ? If that's the case, you could have other drivetrain issues. Your trans tunnel/ floor is so tight you can't shim the trans mount ? That may cause other issues that are heat related.
I'm just thinking ahead to when this monster gets on the road. I guess I will address this issue if and when I have problems. This is the best that can be done to LEVEL the motor without doing major work, i.e. rework the center cross member. Thanks for sharing your expertise, Mike
Dont worry about it! That carb is gonna be leanning alot farther than that when you stand on the throttle and it carrys the wheels 100' in the air. lol
IF you need a tapered pad get one from one of the classic Thunderbird part suppliers, factory mid 60's birds have these.
