  5. My local Ace hardware carries Flitz.

In a pinch you can use MAAS or Wenol to similar effect.

I really like Nevr-Dull. takes some elbow grease but it's worth the result.

Hey, Skip.......I've been where you are now......polishing stainless may be just a little too much of a grunt........don't overexert yourself.......

Use this time as an excuse to be lazy and take a few naps.......

    Hope you recover very soon......

  13. For delicate pieces you can always finish with a cape cod cloth, it's a buffing cloth with polish in it. I use these to finish off dash pieces and small interior trim.

Any soft cloth will do for polishing, however do not use fabric softener on any polishing cloth - whether its for painted bodywork or plated pieces.

You cant go wrong with using cloth diapers to get a nice finish or microfiber cloths. My first pass is usually disposable blue shop towels since the first buff is generally very dirty even after a good cleaning. To prep metals for polish I generally wash them with Dawn dishwashing liquid.

Iosso metal polish. This stuff is better than anything I have ever seen. It puts mothers to shame. It is like a super concentrated Mothers polish. A 3-4oz tube will last you a looooong time. The finish it leaves also last longer, you don't have to buff as often.

Both Flitz and Autosol are great.

  25. AUTO SOL, By far the best. BUT... make sure you get the stuff 'made in germany' the others are not as good. This polish works best by hand rub only. If you want to use a cloth wheel on a drill, use the 'blue magic' These 2 are the best i've found in my opinion, bar none.

It seems to me that with auto cleaning products, like other products, there is a tendency to be sucked in my mistique, however I don't know how to get around it. it seems that with polish we'd be dealing with mostly a degree of abrasiveness and abrasives are probably clay based mixed with colors a scents to add to the mystique and marketing ploy. I'd love to see a chemist chime in. With other cleaning products they tend to be varying degrees of acids or base with some surfacants.

I'm a big fan of Wenal myself for any shiny (stainless, aluminum, brass). Does a good job without a lot of elbow grease.

  28. Never Dull or Autosol is my favorite.
I've done the hernia surgury thing, but only one.
Seriously, you need to do nothing for a few days, you don't want to rip the chicken wire out.
I know, you don't want preaching, Just SS polish advice.

Skip--get well and take it easy--don't exert yourself for a while. The stainless can wait.
    Good Luck---Tim

No over-the-counter liquid is going to bring back a brilliant shine. The most you'll get is a decent cleaning from them.

You need to remove the part and machine buff it with polishing compounds to really bring it back.
