Looking for some input on House of real Kolor Kandy paint over pearl vs their Kandy Base Coat from those who've used both. Does the Base Coat kandy get the right look? Got a fantastic painter to spray the car but I think he'd be happier shootin the base coat vs doing a whole car in real kandy.
Man there is nothing like the real thing.A lot of extra work and $ but well worth it in the end results. For what it's worth, Just my 2 cents opinion.
If you have a good painter, he can do what ever you want. Have him do spray outs to see which one you like the best!
Well it is a helluva lot easier to spray a Kandy look base . . but it's not true Candy. So perhaps you need for him to do a couple spray-outs for you and you can determine which you want . . verses the time and cost.
The Kandy Base Coat is translucent, so the color you're spraying on top of makes a big difference. To me, it comes out looking more like a pearl coat than a true candy over a metallic base. But, you can get some nice deep dark colors by spraying Kandy Base Coat over black.
Candies are the hardest to paint and if you make a mistake...call the priest...... cause you will have to re-do it. Pearls are much more forgiving. As far as basecoats go..........candies have a specific base and pearls do too....although you can probably put one over the other, the finish will probably not be what you expect.
This is ALWAYS a good thing to do! Keep track of your mix ratios, spray patterns, distance, and speed, as well as number of coats, so you can later duplicate the color on your car. You might also want to experiment with different base colors, or amount of coats to play with the darkness of the color. Once you see the difference, you're gonna go for the real candy.
