Figured it's time to introduce myself. Found this site last year in search of buying my first classic and it has been a wealth of knowledge. Growing up it was always a contest between my dad and me to see an old car driving down the road and say what year and make it was. As the years passed, my interests found me gravitating towards cars of the 30's and 50's. At some point along the way, the 49-51 mercury became my favorite classic to dream about. Finally last year I made it a priority to figure out how to make those dreams come true. After about 8 months of searching I found a 1950 mercury that fit my constraints. I took ownership of the car in January of this year. I'm a very hands on person with projects around the house, but have never had the opportunity to tinker with cars until now. I'm looking forward to learning all that I can and enjoying the transformation of the car. My immediate plans have been fixing all the safety related things like a loose fuel filler tube, brake lights, finicky park gear setting, leaking fuel pump and soon to be fixed leaking master cylinder. I've also just sent the benches to get the seats repaired as a near term fix while I tackle some of the other exterior needs and then plan to finish up with the upholstery. I look forward to all that there will be to learn.
Welcome from 1 50 Merc owner to another. Mines been around a little longer than yours, like 1964 but I still love it. From the outside yours looks pretty Stock. The non stock Gas pedal and Tilt steering makes me wonder what's really under the Hood. Funny how an un-chopped Merc has become the rare one. The Wizzard
Thanks for the all the greetings. The car has a Ford 302 from a 1973 Torino from the numbers on the engine block. Had to figure that out so I could find the correct fuel pump replacement. My initial plans were to chop the car from the get go, but its stock look has really grown on me. Ultimately, I think finances will dictate which route I take. For now she'll remain unchopped. Here's a pic of the engine bay.
Welcome from north Texas. Nice looking Merc, one of my lifelong dream cars...........for what it's worth, I like it unchopped.
Would love to take it on a long road trip, but the brakes need to be worked on. Driving to a local cruise last week with the wife, the wheels locked up coming to a stop. The guy driving the 58' finished vette in front of me probably didn't like the sound of screaching tires behind him.
Welcome from Kansas. Nice wheels - strong resemblance to Cobretti's 50 merc monterey - just needs some 16-inch moon disc hubcaps and a hood scoop!
