CARTER AFB Info :: Anyone have a List of Application ?

I need to get a List or Web Site that will allow me to I.D. Carter AFB carbs.

I have a pair of 3783S Carbs & need to find the Application & CFM to see if they will work on a Blown 300 cu. in. DeSoto Hemi or any of my Other Cars.

Hope someone has a Full List of Carb I.D. Numbers ... Whats out there ?

Those carbs are about 600 cfm.

Well 1200 CFM is a bit much for my DeSoto ... But may be OK for my 400 inch '60 Pontiac

But Maybe it would be better to sell them as 409 carbs, They have a date code of D6 = April 1966

I've run across several 3783S carbs with date codes like yours that indicate them being an over the counter replacement. I think that they were very popular for hot rodders to buy for use on their hot rodded 283 or whatever.

I have a pair of them Matched on a 2x4 394 Olds Intake with some Neet Louvered Air cleaners.

Carter produced 505 different model AFB carburetors.

A complete list is available, but it isn't cheap. I spent hundreds of hours of research compiling the list.

For the most part, CFM ratings were not published for Carter AFB's; nor were they published on most carburetors designed for O.E. applications.

Here is a list of those that were actually published.

These are all genuine Carter AFB's (made by Carter). My list does not include the later copies.

To identify MOST (not all) AFB's, use your favorite search engine, and search the following string: thecarburetorshop followed by the carb number.

In the case for this thread: thecarburetorshop 3783

This will bring you to a page on our website. Now use the "find on this page" command in your browser (under the "edit" menu if you use I.E.) to take you to the exact application. There are approximately 80,000 entries on the website.

I have ratings on a few other AFB's from the factory documentation (not published); but have no intention of producing a list of this information.

i will state the largest Carter AFB was the 3636s (Pontiac) which tested 939 CFM.

68barracuda, FWIW and no disrespect to you as a new member, { welcome too BTW}, Jon, Carbking, is always eager to help and offer very valuable information to all of us. He is and has been a very valuable assett to the HAMB. I believe maybe something got lost in the worlds apart that we are, and no harm was meant. We are very traditional here, and some/most of the new or later model replacement items for our Hot Rods, tend to push our patience at times. Most of the new aftermarket replacements are totally against our ideals about our love of the good old days, and the quality and pride that came with owning and maintaining them. That is the sum total of the reply - from this I gather he is incredibly rude
and not prepared to help a fellow enthusiast.

Hi guys - I have a set of old Carter AFB's and I can not find numbers anywhere to correspond with any other numbers. The ONLY numbers I have found on this are in 2 different locations on both Carbs. the numbers 1450 are stamped on bottom side of carbs under the Choke, then raised numbers 1485 directly on top of carb over Choke side, then on bowl the numbers are O - 1565 . all 4 venturi's have numbers as well. There are no more numbers on these but these are a set. Any help please ???

I have two Carter AFB carburetors, 1977.
A casting is: B2 3980 and the other is: B2 3980s (the other casting: VP 1859)
out of that engine? Where can I find the kit review?

The other reason you dont put Edelbrock parts in an afb is they dont fit. A genuine carter afb is PHYSICALLY Smaller then an Eddy. The original competition series stuff is the same size however.

ID on 68 barracuda's unknowns...2506 is Pontiac '57 AT, 2819 is Pontiac '59 AT, 3131 is Plymouth '60 & '61 with power pak, 3921 is '65 Buick, 3647 is Pontiac 389 '63 & '64, 4354 is AMC '67 AT, 4762 is Carter Competition Series 750 cfm with (no choke) for dual quads
