  4. '55 Chevy Dirt Track Car, here's mine from the past :D . Yep, that's me standing next to the car and then with me driving. All this is at Lebanon Valley Speedway near Albany, NY, a fast high banked 1/2 mile dirt (clay) track that is still very successful today.

    This is actually a '56 2-door with a '55 nose. Pic is dated '68, WOW that's 40 years ago!!

I was going to college at the time and racing on a real limited budget. I built that car in my backyard with nothing but a torch and hand tools. I became an expert oxy-acetylene gas welder. I bent the tubing in the crotch of a tree.

That was a good car. I have more detailed pics someplace. I need to dig them out and do a scan.

  5. reeally all you need is a paint job, door numbers, a couple decals, and paint interior white, driveshaft white , a cage
wide five hubs would be cool if you would have raced in a class like that and a quick change could be handy for a quck gearing
I raced the 55 frames for a couple years and destroyed a LOT of parts and made my own spindles and had wide 5 on one

had no money for photos either, now a regret, got some photos of later racing , afflicted with the disease for 18 years

oh brace the top of steer gear to the cage, they broke in 1/2 otherwise
tie rods bent like matchsticks, used to buckle the rear springs coming off corners and rear frame humps need to be steel plated at least that was what it took on dirt

My Dad's car around 1967 with Emil Reutimann(Davids Grandfather) driving. My Mom made Dad get out of racing shortly after this time as I was getting of driving age. Ah yes the old no son of mine is going to drive a race car. Mom lost I still did it. Ted

I've been inspired by a fathers day spent looking at old pictures. I have decided to try to re-create or save an old dirt track stocker. I'm looking for a 55 chevy or a 57 pontiac just like grandpa used to race. If anyone knows of any of these out there that need rescuing let me know especially if they are close to st. louis.

l have had that idea for several years:D

l have raced circle track and due to a on the job injury can't do it anymore.

l am turning a 1948 dodge sedan into a street legal race car.

l have a 2002 modified chassis and will be leaving the race car suspension and full cage in the car so it'll only have only one seat.

search street legal race cars and several winged sprint cars, NASCAR clones and modifieds will show up.

    Later

I know it's not a tri 5 but this is the old tock car we're working on. Won't be street legal. It was raced in central PA in the 60's- 70's.

looking for pictures of Don Shiny HILBERT CAR NUMBER 14

  24. For what it's worth, there's a guy to this day running a '57 Chevy body street stock at Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, NY. I usually stick around to watch just because it's fun to see that car running around the track. It's usually a mid-pack car in the feature.

  25. These pics bring back lots of memories.

Do a search for "The History of Racing at the Historic Cowley County Fairgrounds Speedway in Winfield, KS." Lots of pictures from way back to late 70's.
