Wow, Thanks 50Chevy Frank those links for the manuals are great. I just got my first shipment of parts including the passenger side front door glass that is cracked. Any advice on replacement would be great. I'm thinking that I will need to remove the vent window assembly with the front window track. Is this what I need to do to get that old glass out?

Nice fastback. I really like this body style in 2 or 4 door versions. Have fun with it.

I agree about doing all the safety items first. The car is up on jack stands, just finished changing out all the fluids. Pulled the wheels and brake drums. After looking this car over closer it's obvious that this car has had some maintenance done in the last 5 or 10 years. The brakes look good in fact the back brakes have newer looking wheel cylinders and plenty of pad on the shoes. The fronts look good with dry wheel cylinders and plenty of pad. Thank you all for all the great comments about the car.

It wasn't really in a town but the closest town was Sheffield, IL off of I-80.

That paint---in the "As Found" photos, looks like it could be original 1949 Monaco Blue. My mom had a '49 2-door Fleetline with that color and I've never seen another Fleetline that had it.

The firewall tag show a color code of 387 which is Monaco Blue. After working on the car I have found some tell tale signs that it has been repainted at one time. My guess is that it was painted 20-30 years ago.

A lot of people don't like steak either. That don't make them right, just makes them people with opinions.

Here is an update on the 1949 Chevy. I have gone over the brakes, changed all the fluids, replaced the carburetor with a rebuilt off of eBay that ended up costing only $10.00 more than a rebuild kit. I replaced the passenger side front door glass with the help of a few h.a.m.b.ers. I have done the initial buff of the paint on all of the car except the top thanks in help from my brother-in-law. The wheels are off to be sand blasted and a very nice set of nearly new used wide whitewall tires are ready to be mounted. I started it up on the jack stands and it just purred with that new carburetor. I can't wait to get the old girl back out on the road.

What products did you use on the paint? One product i would recommend if the paint starts fading again is meguairs #7. It's the same formula from way back in the 20's, just a different name now. It works awesome for single stage paints. The paint seems to "soak" it up. It may take a couple of applications though.

    Really cool cruiser too!

  27. Four doors are super cool especially on a car like yours. Going to a show and bringing people or picking up parts, they can't be beat. Nothing more a pain in the ass than being the driver and having to fold the seat to let people out. Great car, count me as one of the insanely jealous.

Great car, personally I like the fact that's it's a 4-door....it's different and I like different. And besides like someone wrote about age before me, I'm 67, most of my friends are 60 and beyond, more comfort more fun.
