I just came across this photo. Great job! I am building a 1952 F1. What motor and trans did you use? It looks like a perfect fit.

Here's my 48 in progress. So far it has a 2" chop, sbf, tremec trans, and air suspension.

Does anyone know if 1948-1950 trucks fender wells were painted the body color or painted black from the factory?

As far as I know they were black. The inner fender panels would have been one of those generic pieces stacked in a pile next to the assembly line and just bolted in as the trucks came down the line. It would have been a nightmare to make sure the panels were painted to match each truck coming down the line.

Our '49 we picked up a couple months ago. It is now being readied for the road (brakes, engine swap, general clean up/frame painting) so we can hit some cruises next summer.

The easiest thing to do is swap in a pre-'73 F-100 9" rear axle. It's basically a bolt in. You'll have to either weld new shock mounts or find a set of spring perches from a '48-52 F-2. You might also need a longer transmission yolk.

I've got a '50 F2 and am searching for some good rear fenders. Can you tell me if the rear fenders on F2s are the same from 48-52?

F-2/F-3 rear fenders are the same from '48-52 for the 8' Express boxes. Unlike the F-1, Ford didn't dramatically change the boxes in the mid 1950 model year. The Express had the raised side panels from the early '40s to '52, the F-1 boxes had flat sides starting in the mid '50 model year. Rear fenders also changed in mid '50 for the F-1 with the elimination of the notch to accommodate the raise panel. The only difference I've seen in the Express box is the shape of the inside wheel bump, and this didn't affect the fenders. My original box on my '49 F-2 had round bumps, the box I replaced it with had oval shaped bumps. I've had at least 5 '48-52 F-2/F-3 trucks and it doesn't seem to matter what year the truck is because other than the box I am using I haven't had a truck with the oval bumps. Ford didn't seem to follow much of a construction procedure, they seemed to used whatever was closest to the assembly plant and whatever was cheapest to get. The was being used as a trailer when I got it so I don't have any idea what year it was used on.

If you're not aware there are two differences between F-1 fenders and those used on the Express boxes. Smaller wheel openings, like the front fenders, and the Express fenders are narrower to accommodate the wider box.

Hi I am restoring a 52 F6 and in need of front fenders, I noticed you have a 51 and 52 F2 and F3. The fenders to my knowledge are the same from F2 to F6 for51 and 52. Would you be able to help out with any fenders to buy or put me in touch with someone who has some. Thanks.

Just had the truck painted! Used ppg bc/cc. Turned out really nice. Now for putting it all together.

Going to run smoothies with a small center cap but cant decide on black with cap and beauty ring or red? Whats your thoughts?

    Thanks

  29. Looks good! Correct color too.

  30. This it what I drive on daily basis during the summer, a 1948 F-1 with a smallblock and a th350. I found it advertised here at HAMB, brought it from Tucson Arizona and got it registered in Sweden in July 2012. It is by no means a show car, but I'm continuously improving it to be a good and reliable driver.
