You can also use your favorite liquid rust disolver, somewhat more effectively by filling the combustion chambers thru the cylinder bores after the pistons are removed and the block prepped like listed above. I am assuming the pistons will come out from the bottom.
Use a compression tester and put compressed air in the spark plug hole. It will lift the head a lttle. Maybe enough.
I feel your pain man. I went through this on my 35. I had to unscrew all the studs(they still wont come out of the head but they are unscrewed). The stud removers with the rollers(looks like a deep well socket) worked on some of them but a small pipe wrench got most of mine out and some of them broke. You cant worry about trying to save the studs. Its a bitch
Chris, if your not going to reuse the pistons, can you use a long drill bit and drill carefully through the top of the piston to fill the chamber with some rust solvent? I know its not the cure all here, but maybe some help with minimal work and expense.
Had the same problem with a banger. I soaked the head in a creeping oil with the trade name of Kroil. It loosened the studs enough to wedge the head off and unscrew them the rest of the way with a pipe wrench. The stuff worked down the studs and around the head/block surface. I let it soak a week before attempting to remove the studs. You can get Kroil at their site online, or some machine shops may have it.
