I thought I would post some pics of the progress I had made on my car. Just finished painting the dash and the firewall.

Thanks guys, I built this car five years ago when I was in highschool. It had a 267 in it at the time, and i drove it like that four a couple of years but got tired of people asking if it is a RR. So this summer I re-did all the sheetmetal, and found a 350 for it.

I wanted it all in one color, last photo.

As for the roof, the car was rolled back in the day, and the roof was caved in. Off it came and chopped the windshield 3", plans are to either put a carson top on or something one day...

Looking good. Are you building a carson top for it or are you going to keep it with no top?

Hell just read under that pic that you might be doing a carson top. Good luck with finding a windshield that will fit!

I cut down a stock windshield for it when i built it for the first time.

  16. Looks good, man!

I built a carson-style top for mine as well.

It was a great design exercise, and I learned a lot.

I keep saying I'm going to build a better one, but I know that I wont!;)

The car has since been sold, wrecked and bought back, so the pics aren't very current, but you get the idea...

Cool stuff. Was your Carson top a removable one or full time? Was it made of conduit?

Your car is looking great! Keep it up... one of my favorites here on the HAMB is a topless Chevy.. when done right.. they can be badass rides..

dash looks great. the car is coming along nicely.

did you fill any of the holes on the dash before painting it, or just leaving it stock

I left all the stock holes in the dash. I was going to fill some but i found a donor car with decent knobs and a radio, so I thought I would leave them.

I love both of those cars. Mine is a 52 chevy 2 door sedan. I bought it with the top chopped off with a saw. ha Anyways it is at the painters right now and I am finishing up on the carson top. I just finished the rear window frame and am adding the mess this week. Will take some pics and show you what I am working with. Was my first project so learning a hell of a lot! I say next time I will do the top a little different.

Hey does anyone have photos of some sort of convertible looking boot for the rear package tray? I am going to start making one but need ideas For now I want to make it look like it had a top that is folded down.

Great looking car ! Is that a g or b body rear clip or is it on a modified later chassis?

  26. Nice work Jay!!!

  27. It is removable, and when it is installed it is fixed with stainless hinges in the rear and hold-down latches in the front.

The doors are welded shut so I had to be a little bit creative in getting the chopped carson look, while still being able to get in and out!:)

I really like the change your car has made from the pieced together beginnings to a more flowing cohesive vehicle.

This is what I am doing to mine. One thing I will be doing that many people do not do it cover the mesh with a few layers of fiberglass. I wanted to do this so I would not have dents in the top if someone pushed on it. After I get it all smoothed I will add a layer of foam then cover it with convertible top material. Mine will have the vent windows installed as well.

By the way welding this wire mesh is a pain in the ass!

Yeah the whole frame is a g body boxed and lengthened 7". I keep the chassis swap on the down low before the traditional police get me!
