Those tires and wheels would probably look more like aircraft tires as well due to their large size. I could use the wheel adapters to make them fit a 1 ton dually truck axle.

Man, words cannot describe how f*%^in cool that is. Too bad I don't live closer, would love to help out on a build like that. Hell I bet I could spend days just looking at all that cool shit you got stashed in your yard.

Good luck with the build and keep us updated..

I gotta think making this into a motorhome is way easier than making a motorhome into a flying machine. Good luck, very cool!

That Lodestar went to Montana to be used as a guest house. It sat at an airport in Texarkana for a long time. Gary Hilton is the guy that took it apart and drove it all the way up there. I wish that I had that one because my life would be a lot easier not having to repair all of the damage to mine.

Brings back memories. When I was a youngster there used to be a Lodestar owned by Russell-Stover Candies based at the Kansas City Fairfax airport in the mid '60's. It was a very swank executive conversion. Just watching them pull it out and crank it up would give you goose bumps. What a machine. Right next door at the same airport they built B25's.

That thing is so crazy, you can, connect a steering shaft to the steering wheel and drive it from that top windshield. That thing is over the top

    Thanks,

  25. Hell yes, California Airframe near near the Oakland CA airport.

That's a Lockheed Hudson, the Military version of the Lodestar. Used for transport, glider towing, reconnaissance and occasional short range bombing missions. The Australians bought a bunch. There's probably a stash of parts over there. Perfect for flying your sheep from station to station.:D

if it's only 7000 pounds, you could do turbo diesel and drag race it.

maybe consider trailing arms for IRS. could tuck a pumpkin up a bit into belly with 934 cv joints and axles sticking out the skin to your hubs. with the right pivots, could create the camber change you drew into your sketch.

take a look at the offroad crowd for ideas, they make stuff that sometimes looks like landing gear:

also be kind of cool to figure a way to do a CVT transmission with loud exhaust so it sounds like a plane taking off.

I am just wondering if you could use the Dana 70 as you propose, but tuck it up in the chassis, and then make CV shaft come off the ends of that and hook to the outboard of your IRS. The brakes could remain on the end of the D-70 and still be very serviceable. It would also allow you to get your width. You could even shorten the 70 a bit to get the CV shafts longer for the better articulation.
