I should have dated my photos better. Obviously earlier in the year and a less radical

The last "Melrose Missile". This one was an AFXer right out of the box. I believe that as the AFXers were rapidly becoming more radical, this was the car that they cut the top off of to make the Melrose Missile roadster. I moved out of the area around that time but later heard that the dealership felt the race cars were deviating too much from what they were trying to sell for the street so they dropped their team sponsorships after 1965.

An original Max-wedge wagon. A poster on another thread has e-mailed me that he is pretty sure that this car was originally owned by Ron Mandella who won the A/S class with it at the '64 NHRA US Nationals.

Ive looked into it.I had my families home 8MM Movies converted onto DVD and that wasnt cheap. The seller of these films is also the guy who filmed it all and said he will sell me a working Tape machine for $35 to view the tapes.theres also a friend here in Castro Valley who has been working to put together a Fremont Dragstrip documentary.I contacted him and he is very excited as well to view these tapes. From talking to the seller on the phone today, mostly 70's and 80's footage.Intervies with Garlits, etc..so this could be worth transferring to DVD or releasing as a series.Purchase of the tapes also gave me full rights to the material as well.

Cool videos. I remember seeing some of those race cars live at both Fremont and HMB.

The last time I was there Roy Brizio and crew plus Vic Hubbard were there too. Pleasant memories of some top notch racers and engine builders. Oh for those old times again!

The first drag race I ever went to was at Fremont in 1963. I saw a 7 second fuel car race a jet dragster. They chained a junker to the jet and melted it just for kicks! I thought, "hey these drag race guys got it going on!" I was in school at Hayward junior high. My mom had a stock 49 or so Austin coupe. Some guys kept after my dad to buy this car to make a gas class racer. When we left Hayward my dad did sell it to them. On the day they picked it up they came with their tow rig and trailer. One of the older guys in the block told me they were well known racers, but I do not recall who they were. I was back at Fremont in 1984 and saw a regional
race there that was pretty good. I took a friend from Louisiana with me,
and it was his first drag race also. He was not overly impressed until
"The Snake" made a hard pass in his funny car. His jaw dropped and
he was then very much impressed, just like I was all those years ago.
