Thought this might be of interest to some folks. Rear axles, I prefer Ford Banjo's and Ford radius rods above all others. Just my preference, nothing against folks that use others. For me, they just look right under an A. I scored a 42-47 open drive banjo center with good 3:54 gears, good for long distance cruises. I put that together with 37-41 bells, axles, and spiders. I put an open drive 39 style trans together converted to open drive with all Ford parts. So, what to do with the radius rods? We've all heard that splitting them leads to binding/breakage as does the torque tube not being there anymore. A torque rod will take care of the torque tube being absent but still, what about the radius rods? I found a thing called the "Uni-Ball" that looked like it might be the answer I was looking for. It's basically a Heim with no threaded portion that fits into a "Cup" and is secured with a snap ring. It has 32 degrees of movement up and down on both sides due to what the manufacturer calls "High Mis Alignment Spacers". So I built a mount for it, shortened/pie cut and tipped down the radius rods and put it all together. I'm going to add a torque rod from the top of the Banjo housing to a mount on the right hand radius rod to control pinion movement. I'm also going to add some sort of bracing to tie both radius rods together just behind the Uni-Ball. Should allow things to operate without binding like the bell shaped end of a torque tube.

Thanks man, we've been cycling the axle up and down, it lets one wheel up and the other down just like a torque tube would when you go over uneven roads etc. It look's like it's going to operate good.

  12. Awesome! I'm totally stealing this idea.

It's $100. there are cheaper parts like the "Uni-Ball" but this one looked like I wouldnt have to worry about it being strong enough. Here's a link to where I got it:

man thats a nice roadster body

  20. F-6 Thanks but it's an 80's something GLASS body,--I know,I know not everybody wants a glass body, but the price was soooo right that I COULD NOT pass it up. The body is 20 plus years old and has never sat on a frame, go figure. Will I'm going to make me a nice little hot rod out of it.

just searched this thread and saw the only picture of mine was mostly of the engine that was going in to it, four years ago
since then not much has changed, I did swap the sbc for the 371 Olds and the 9" for an early Olds Posi, minor changes up front, chopped grill shell and headlights mounted...
soon as the '27 get's going, this summer hopefuly, I plan to get back on it

here is what it looked like last fall
