...a local guy bought one at a garage sale recently (twin Turbonique go-cart) that had been stored for 40 years. It was evil to look at. His research indicated the problem occured when you backed off the throttle.....the fuel accummulation in the spherical housings, used to grenade and blow part or all of the driver's head off.....helmet or not.

I thought you just lit 'em off and they were full throttle until you ran out of fuel? Which is REAL scarey on the go-cart with a prop.

The last one on ebay that was NOS & in the box (the large model) sold for 10k. I'm surprised that 16k wouldn't be enough.

I found a website a couple of years ago about a guy building something similar using a turbocharger and a combustion chamber to power an oversized go kart. He had a video where he would use like a leafblower to spin it up before the combustion would take place and keep it running. Don't remember what he used for fuel, but, I don't think it was anything exotic. It was pretty cool.

Just the thing for the person with EVERYTHING--except a brain LOL. Just sayin, i don't like the idea of having to be at full throttle until it runs out of fuel. I guess ya take some LSD, then smoke a joint to mellow out--then go play on the go carts WTF, over!

Maybe it went thru the traps at 183, upside down, 4 feet in the air, with the turbojet still blasting?

Coolest thing I ever found in a scrap pile was a factory dual-quad Nailhead intake. This pretty much blows that away!

I recall the Chevelle in a Hot Rod magazine article...First run with the Turbonique axle when lit off in low gear immediately over-revved the 396 and blew the engine.
Not sure what steps were taken after that, but seem to recall they switched over to an automatic tranny.
That drag axle was ingenius: there was a second pinion gear at the rear of the diff, driving the same ring gear...(must have been Getz!)
