this car was to be next winters project but we have an indoor car shop in two weeks. cavilcade of customs. i am trying to get it all tacked together for the show. i will be making a roof scoop much like the chrismans coupe. my dad just picked up a 64 corvair for the roof on his 32 5w coupe project. i got to looking at the rest of the car we where going top scrap and i was looking at the rear qtr tops and they would make a great roof scoop for the stromberg 97's. we cut them off and i will be welding them together to make the scoop. kinda hard to describe but once i weld and cut them i will post pics . they will work out great.

the 6 cyl is going to fit in there just great. i need to get a chey 3 speed thought. i think i can save some room with an earily 3 speed . the 4 speed i was going to use may be alittle to long and cause the rear axle to be moved back ferther than i would like . my dad told me about the 3 speeds from like a 55-57 chey being shorter. anyone have a measurement on this fromt bellhousing to tall shaft? a 4 speed with bell housing is 29" . i would like something shorter.

55-6-7 trans are much longer than later models - none of which will fit within the the 29" you describe :(
A 35-37 packard trans will fit the bill - getting hard to find though.

A 3 speed saginaw with the extension housing removed and the output shaft re-splined will do it for you.

that is right.... buzzin half dozen. i like these 6 cylinders. they are cheap, reliable , and good torque. i just wish the engine i had was a truck long stroke 292 not a 250 . the 250 was almost free.

here is another odd rod 32 hupmobile i built a few years ago with a 230 sick cylinder. it ran great. pretty quick for what it was.

the chopp is mostly complete. i made a top for the door area to define the shape of the top out of 1/8 x 2" the sheet metal top will be welded to this . also the 40 ford roof section is ruffed it. i had to cut it apart to get rid of the v shape to it and flattedn it out. the roof needed to be rerolled to lay down as it stuck streight up. here are some pics

well i worked till 4:00 am this morining and now its 9:15am and i just got some sleep. here is what i got done late last night. i worked the 40 windshield some more and got it in to shape. i also got the corvair front fender tops shaped, cut and welded into place over the top of the doors. this essex is kinda like a model t coupe. there was not much but wood over the doors and a cloth top. i had to do some moving of the corvair metal as it was not the exact shape but it look good now. i had a 1962 cadillac 4dr sedan roof that i saved when i bought a caddy engine for my 32 coupedeville . it worked out great to fill the top. now i used the rear qtr fender tops off the corvair and cut them down for the roof scoop that will feed the three stromberg 97's that will be on the 230 chev 6. i cant waite till the engine is in the get a sence of the feel of the car.
