6 cyl chevy finned valve cover?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Al Baker, Dec 11, 2011.

  1. Anyone know if a PLAIN finned chevy 235 valve cover exists or is on the market? Not an Offenhauser or Wayne but just like them only just finned and no names or writing?

Don't think that'll be too easy to do. The name on the cover is the maker's signature and that is gold.

In my thirty years of collecting 216/235 speed equipment, I've never seen a finned cover for one without some sort of name cast on it.

Haven't seen one. like stated above, the maker wants everyone to know who made the cover. If you can find one then it would look awesome!

They put the name on so other people who see it can track the name down and buy one if they like it. One who knows.

6inarow was that one of the C.A.W. Valve covers out of Denver. I have one and they look a lot alike.

  16. No, Tom/6inarow produced those. One of the coolest modern speed parts IMHO:)

I had both CAW covers and liked the later one better. I also had an Edmunds and a Wayne. cut the Wayne apart to see how the pattern were made. After I looked at all of them I decided that the older patterns were OK for the times but there was room for improvement.

SO I made a pattern, cast a few up and made some final changes and that is the cover you see today. So, yes it has the appearance of the CAW but if you had the 2 side by side, you can see a difference.

The one complaint i hear is that they are not "old school" enough. Yeah right - get a hold of the little pages or the CAW and they tell me what old school looks like.

I foolishly got rid of my CAW"S. If you want to trade, I would trade you for a new cover I made.

Thanks 6inarow for making these covers. They are really nice. I would buy one if i didn't already own a caw and edmunds. The old castings were very bad. The caw is way heavy and the edmunds were made from beer cans. They have so many bubbles that if you polish too much you will burn holes through the metal. I would uy one of yours and mill some fins if desperate. Anyone thought of talking with moon? They have no name nailhead covers. Maybe enough intreast is there, they will make 235 covers.-cb

Hey thanks for the post - check out Curt B here on the HAMB. He bought a couple of my valve covers and milled some grooves in one or 2 like you describe. They turned out very very nice. But he isnt your average hot rodder - this guy has talent that not a lot of people have. Check your his pics or ask him to post some pics up. it isnt a true finned valve cover but has a very cool appearance
