Need alitle expert advice. Bought a par of hollye 660 race carb´s.and i see that they had holes in the trottelblades, should the bee there??????? Or is there a home mechanic that want to get more air in the motor ?
Thanks i think the look stock, but i didnt know. Many people drill them holes to let more air in,when they usa a BIG cam.
Working on a 66 chevy II 2door post gasser style ,and run in to this tunnelram with 2 660 hollye`s,that would fitt great!!!!!i think? Gona look f**ng great anyway.
My pair are basically new If I didn’t know holley rebuilt them Id swear on my life they were NOS …. they are that nice and its very doubtful to me holley doesn’t know the correct parts to put on them I don’t know what to tell you other than You asked ... so ...we told and gave you a option for more info. BTW My 450's have no holes Your welcome
You can run the plates with the holes. Then run them without by plugging the holes with solder. Then choose what you like best. You're a lucky guy. 8^) Jack E/NJ
That's crazy!!! What if that solder breaks off the throttle blades and does the "happy dance" between the heads and pistons???.... No thanks!
Nah. Even if it did, which is highly unlikely, the small flake of soft solder wouldn't do the kind of damage the allegedly-staked screws holding the plates to the shafts do when they come loose. Perhaps you haven't seen this happen....yet. 8^) Jack E/NJ
Some combinations need the holes in the plates, so that the engine gets enough air to idle with the throttle blades closed. If you have to open the blades to much at idle it uncovers the vertical transition slots above the blades at idle and effects the way the carb reacts off idle. So it's not a one way is right and the other way is wrong kind of deal. Every combination is a little different, one size doesn't fit all. Larry T
I have run 660's for years and never seen "factory" air holes in any of the sets I have owned or worked on. If your running an auto trans you may want to slow the secondries by re phasing them with some sculpting around the throttle linkage, food for thought!
