I recently bought a 351W from a fellow hamber and I am trying to decode the numbers.

Problem is....I don't see any obvious casting numbers. Where are the numbers located? This is my first Ford engine, other than Y-blocks. Chevrolets are in GIANT casting numbers.

I have found several sites that tell how to decode, but none that lay out the locations.

    Thanks

They'll be along the oil pan rail for the block casting , will be XXXX-6015-X, heads will be above the exhaust ports in the middle. If its a early 351 the build date will be on a pad near the water pump on the drivers side, something like 0A15, which will mean Jan.5 1970. Hope this helps.

351 W ,... great motor! The only thing I encountered with them is the 69 engines have a different center main bearing tab ,...and the 70 and up items won't fit in the block.

  6. I believe the 69-70 heads where the ones to get to. 290 HP with flat tops. both had small cc chambers. 69 slightly smaller than 70.
I've been carring these things around for years. Maybe use them some day.

No, this is a later block I believe. It's a bone stocker for my wagon.

    Thanks guys.

I knew the hamb would come through for me.
