The old rule of thumb is 7 psi per 1000 rpm, but I usually like to see about 40-60 psi cruising on the highway and about 10 psi at idle (500-800 rpm). Whatcha got?
My fairly stock 354 runs 50 or 60 at highway speeds and around 20 pounds around town when its good and warm.
Its an engine that I had in another car and it did'nt have an oil pressure gauge in it. I have 10 psi on idle so it looks like that is ok revs up to 30lb off idle but the car is not completely driveable so don't know what pressure at highway speed. But on info given it looks ok Thanks to all that responded.
I have a 331 out of a dump truck that I bought as a spare for my dirt car. About a year ago, I decided I didn't need it, so I made a test stand to get it running. After all was said and done, it ran 55 lbs at idle cold and 40 lbs at idle hot. Over 60 lbs when up to revs. This is an unknown engine, but it had clean oil when I got it. I just changed the filter and added a pint of EOS. Also, the built engine in the race car idles at 60 lbs and pegs the 80 lb gauge when running.
If you're asking me, I have whatever came in the truck engine (it looked brand new) and 10-50 Mobil-1 racing oil in the built engine.
