Two lane blacktop or Vanishing point (The original not the remake).

  2. Vanishing point just for the nostalgia, my dad took me to the drive-in to see it when it first came out.

  3. Vanishing Point. For the most part, they didn't bother with the crummy dialogue...

Two Lane Blacktop is more beautiful and cinematic. Also it's done in such a sparse and no-nonsense way. There's barely a script -- feels more like a road journal come to life. Bears up to repeated watchings better, in my opinion.

Well, if it's of any interest I can tell you what "sells" better at the car related events where I sell DVD car movies. In the 15 years of selling Drag Racing and car movies the top 10 sellers always end up in this position (or close to it)
#1 Hot Rod (The one with the the Willys)
    #2 California Kid
    #3 Dirty Mary Crazy Larry
    #4 Two Lane
    #5 American Grafitti
    #6 Vanishing Point
    #7 Return to Macon County
#8 Catch Me if you can
    #9 Born to Run
    #10 Hollywood Knights
Those 10 titles make up 60% of my sales totals even though I have over 170 DVD titles on display at shows....Year in and year out....these are always somewhere in the top 10 popularity wise.

I seem to remember the Challenger in the movie Vanishing Point had the 50 speed transmission like the Mustang in Bullit did.

To get a little of topic here, these movie threads come up from time to time, and I thought I'd seen them all, then discovered this one on netflix. I wouldn't rank it up there with the list that Bob posted, but some of you younger rockabilly guys would probably really dig it. It's worth a watch.

Has to be two lane. I drove a 55 2 door sedan back in them times, illegal late night racing, made a little money, cruising up and down colfax, 15th and 16th streets. Had my share of run in with the law. I guess when ya lived it, it's more of a memory thing with two lane for me. I had an article published for Good Guys back in sept under Rojer Jetters banging the gears collumn. all about campaigning a 55 chevy, illegal drag racing, and more. if ya get a chance check it out.

PS I believe vanishing point filming was started in lower downtown denver, and started out at a bar called the blue blaze bar on washington street. It's where he scored his speed for the trip.

I thought it was 75 speeds. Oh well, my vote goes to V.P.
