Hi all!!! Any help here would be great. I have a '50 AD half ton and I'm wanting to run a quarter elliptical set up on the front and was wandering if the front springs would be ok to cut and use or are they not strong enough?

Are you asking why I'm not running the stock set up?

The frame was designed to accomodate the stock paralell springs. Changing to quarter eliptics won't improve the ride or handling any, and will require fabbing up some sort of radius arm arrangement in addition to new spring mounts. With the stock axle lowering is restricted by the axle to frame distance.
    So...............why?

I think you just answered the question. I'm wanting to lower the truck and what I have found is tranverse spring set up or quarter elliptical are my options. I'm only using the cab and bed from the original truck.

Um no, just want a low stance and like the concept of the quarter elliptical set up. I plan to box the frame and install the springs inside with a ride height adjustment bolt.

I have seen alot of them on here and alot of pics on them. Also it's not going to be a garbage build. I want to be safe so that's why I asked about the springs.

It's your truck, but if you plan to build one of those fenderless abortions with the cab pushed back to the rear axle, you will be laughed off the HAMB and out of every show you take it to.

I really like AD pickups and I have this one on my desk top: [IMG]

You can get dropped axles for these: http://www.droppedaxles.com/CHEVY_AXLES.html

Here is a huge 1947- 1955 Chevy Truck Pic Thread: http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=109951&highlight=chevy+ad+picture+thread&showall=1

Once again it's your truck but why not build something cool?

I like the trucks as well. I have a '49 that will look like the one you have pictured here. That will be a later build tho. Also I will agree with you about the cab being pushed back. I don't like that style either. The rear will be in the same position it is now, but with a 4 link set up. The cab will stay in the same spot. The only thing that will be moving is the front axel to just in front of the frame. Just wanted something period correct and that looks cool. No S10 frame here.

Floor pans are a must for me because it still gets a little cold here in TN. LOL, it's illegal to steal roadsigns.
