Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Leadsled612, Oct 8, 2011.

  1. I am planning ahead on the 50 Merc's paint scheme. Black exterior,red/silver interior and flames front to rear.
Any cool ideas I can get from you guys?

    seek out bad bob!

  4. I agree, checkout his Merc.

  5. I personally love flames on mercs especially when done in candy's and flake head to toe. Solid black with red flames are way over done IMOP. If you are set on black as your main color how about doing it in a sime gloss black with the flames done in a mix of charcole & putter mine flake and outlined with a silver ?

  6. EXK...is the semi gloss a shiny black or more towards the rat rod or hot rod black I see from Eastwood?
What is mine flake? The charcoal and pewter sounds like a nice combo!

Here is a little different approach to flames. In its bare metal stage you can see no filler at all, just several days of hammer & dolly work combined with several decades of experience.

I am also i fan of flames on hot rods! :D

  13. flames.......seriously! hahaha! My only suggestion....don't put them on the trunk unless they go over the roof.
Obviously,EXK doesn't like mine. EVEN after I complimented his ghost flames...go figure!

Normally I don't think flames look right on 49/51 Merc's but Bob's car is the exception. Too many of them are so overdone that all you see is flames and don't see the actual car for what it is.

Bad Bob's is my favorite flamed merc. I'm not a big fan of the flames going straight on to the back either, it becomes all you can see. I think the flames should compliment the car not be all the car has to offer. IMHO (2 cents and all that)

    Just copy Bob's you'll be fine :)

Ok here is my daily driver 51 Merc "The Suicide Sedan".the flames fade darker and end up red but they are blended well and tastefully done By Hotrod Walt .Everyone has there own take on flames and end the end it is all personal preference.I could not be happier with the results.I for 1 like flames on the trunk it completes the look and flows well if the car is decked.

notice there isn't one old picture on this thread of an old custom with flames...Of course they're were a couple...My opinion, flames are a no no on a merc 99% of the time. and god, the flames on that 55 buick are terrible!!!!

EDIT: I was talking about the 55 in post 19.

alot of the flames on this thread require a lot of time/work/skill, however, alot of them are also not traditional!

i posted two pictures of old customs with flames for the hell of it.
