From the net - Some "soft core" engine porn - 331 Chrysler M45 Marine Hemi engine pics. For those who have never been 'up close and personal' with one of these beasts, I've found and posted these nice 'close up' pics of a restored 1954 M45S Chrysler marine hemi. Note the factory M45 'two 1-bbl' carb set-up, the exquisitely designed gear case and drive assembly for the marine drive off the *front* of the engine and the humongous 15 quart capacity cast iron marine oil pan! Enjoy! Mart3406 ===============================
Guy up in Lake Chelan had a fairly large wood boat with a Hemi with 2x1 carbs....really churned up a wake for a 30 footer cabin cruiser. I'd guess with that heavy momma back there took him awhile to get up on step. dj
Oh god, 'Ramblur'.....those pics of that gorgeous hemi-powered Chris-Craft Cobra you just posted did it to me! I'm gettin' a woody....and not the boat or the station wagon kind either!!!! Mart3406 ===========================
Glad to see you guys like the smallest of my Chrysler Marine Hemi engines. That one will be a backup engine for my 21 Ft Chris Craft Capri. Need any info on them just ask away.
engine/trans condition update after I took delivery and inspected: The person who sold me the engine could never get the OEM fuel pump to work, because it still had the "shipping pin" installed from the factory in the early 1950s, works perfectly now. The previous owner had a very difficult time selling the engine/trans assembly because of its 1400lb weight and location. It cost me $460 to get from CA into the back of my pickup trucks' bed in Baltimore, MD. I use a real kick ass freight broker..... He had assembled several parts incorrectly due to using a very outdated service man without the change/update pages. Those parts/assemblies were remanufactured and reassembled. Now all 100% BRAND NEW. The lift hook/eyes were relocated and recountoured to fit where they were suposed to be mounted and repainted. The engine had no wear or use on any of its components or the trans components, it was and is virtualy brand new. These Chrysler marine engines were all dyno tested from the factory with the units designed to run for 8 hrs at WOT upon delivery and installation. I removed the origional water pump and installed a very rare Chrysler Marine pump made under contract from Chrysler by Jabsco. It is an OEM replacement part for 100% origionality. Now replacement impellers are 35.00 each for the one it uses, not 100 times X 4. I then reworked the copper/brass water pipe plumbing, after mounting the exhaust flanges mocking up and fully welding exhaust elbows and water injection fittings to eliminate all rubber hoses and hose clamps. Everything is solid copper/brass/SS bolt together with expansion/contraction allowances built in. I sold the Chrysler Marine water pump (with brand new impellers), wrench, and hose clamps to one of the other guys in the boat club thet needed them. I also traded the electric fuel pump that came with the motor for 40 gals of fuel and a ramp use sticker for 2yrs................... I now have a BRAND NEW engine/ (hydraulic shifted) trans with updated 1950 OEM systems and low maintence water pump for my 1956 Chris Craft. All for less than just the net cost of a rebuildable transmission core....
Bringing up an old post but it came up as a search 331 Marine Hemi oil capacity. Heres my newest purchase. [=full]
