We use an older Hobart feeder at work, and its the most handy, useful, reliable and rugged welder in the whole shop (out of about 30 welders) I use a Lincoln 255 myself, after many many bad experiences with Miller. Whatever you do stay away from the Millermatic 250s. Apparently the Dynasty 250 & 350's are great, but no personal experience with them.
Try to find a good used Millermatic 200 or Miller Vintage MIG. Really smooth arc and can be found in the used market pretty reasonable.
Picked up a Miller 211 a couple months back. Very impressed with it. I've used both sides, 120 & 220, it makes no difference. Both sides are smooth.
A couple of years ago I bought a Esab Migmaster 250,and its the nicest Mig Iv ever used,I also have a Hobart 187 basically the same as the new 190 except the 190 is spoolgun ready for under a grand its the best bang for the buck.
What do you plan on doing with it mostly? I just picked up a Hobart to do body work with, I love it. I got a Handler 140 that I'm mostly going to use for light stuff like sheet metal and what not but it’s been pretty versatile so far. Under 500 bones.. We have a Hobart Ironman 250 at work and it’s a beast, a bit much for my needs though
I have a hobart 187 and I love it works for all my car welding and works great for my farm equipment- works great. Bought it on sale under 500.00 shipped to my door from NothernTool
Gonna have to agree with the others on this. I have the millermatic 211 with auto set and I am very glad I bought it.
My dad's shop has three Lincolns. A 140, a 180, and a 255. Had good luck with all of them. The two smaller ones are mostly used on stainless.
