I'm thinking of building a set of rear nerf bars for my truck,to go with the 60's look I'm after. I did a search and didn't find what i was really looking for. So I guess I'm putting out the call for help. Please post what you got or what you like. Thanks!
NOT my car.... I took the pic because this one was real different. Yes I know it's not a truck but maybe flip it upside down.
I'm looking for anything thanks for the post. I've got a welder and time, not looking to copy anything just some ideas. Thanks again for the reply.
Well, it's an old thread, but somebody might still wanna build some nerf bars. Here's a couple old threads I did on my attempts at building some a while back: Rear nerf how-to: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=248599 Front (not so much of a how-to, but pretty much the same as the rear nerf): http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=249832 And front & rear pic of them on the finished car-I am accepting donations to have them chromed still: Hope these help a little! Dan
PS. the bars on the back and front are bumpers, the bars on the sides are nerf bars. Gary PSS. I frequently, and incorrectly, use the term interchangeably, and as well for someone being hit from behind - as being "nerfed" out of the way. But ifn you check with any old oval track racer, he will tell you only the side bars are nerfs. Even some vintage rule books and parts catalogs describe them that way. Just a footnote in American auto racing trivia, no biggie.
In 1954 I and my friends called them nerf bars front and back. Check Google and it will tell you that nerf bar is hot rod slang for bumper. Oz calls them a Roo Bar.
