checked out the limo hotrod now we just gotta find one in a junk yard .haha we will get it sorted out heres the over all profile of the car.
glad your diggin it Ted!! its pretty subtle as you can tell since thats the stock windshield sitting there and it looks like it fits but you know somethings different at the same time. thanks hot rod should have the bracing done by the weekend and then onto putting some sheetmetal back into place!!
Man this thread got my attention...how much are you chopping it? Here is a pic of my 50 chopped 2 and 3/4"...there's nothing like a 50's chopped Caddy!!!
its was chopped and inch and a half then i took out another 5/16ths to get it a taste lower for Ted. ohhh and niiice car caddy man.
52 caddy 3 piece rear glass... the main center glass is almost flat. the side lights could probably be sunk into the trunk or something
ill check into it road kill this is the most imporant part of the chop again the bracing. the top was so weak this seriously has alot to do with holding the car together. do not skimp on this part if you chop one of these cars . its why i cut away so much of the roof so i could weld it together properly i moved the rear of the roof forward so i could realign the bracing you really cant beat tight gaps. the tig welder loooooves em i miged all the bracing because it was so pitted and rusty on both sides . i also reconnected the main brace that runs down the side of the roof . the welds not to pretty but they have full penetration. there was a ton of rust of the back and well as a ton of pits that the wire cup didnt get into . the rear is now starting to take shape!
got the bracing done on both sides then fired up the english wheel the transition looks real sunken-in in the pics idk why ... get some better pics of it tomorrow
got a big portion of the roof/sail panel done sunday took about 5 hours now onto the middle section...
hahah thanks james! gotta be weird seeing your car be built online Ted. well we are moving along now i didnt like the way the roof came out in this spot so there was only one thing to do cut it out and weld some new metal in
If all goes well cutting the first windshield, could the extra windshield be cut down to use as a rear glass? maybe cut into a 3 piece back glass if it doesn't fit whole? Your work looks great, I just can't see that car with the small back window.
we will see what ted wants whens the roof is all welded up i will fill the void with poster board spray painted grey and cut a window hole . sorta why i am finishing the og roof first just in case!
This looks great! I think it would look nice with the original rear glass cut down. It'd give it that factory chop look.
Well, here is what my 55 Caddy looks like with a small back window. Hey Flop, its looking great. Keep it up
I'm digging this. Good luck choosing a back window. I don't know if I am sold on the small back window but different strokes to makes the world go round.... it looks great so far.
here is what we are shooting for when it comes to a back window this is the photoshop i am working with as reference
I totally agree. To fatten up the C pillars to add an orphan back window is to take some of the Caddy's beauty away. However, I'm sure you'll do something to change my opinion. Carry on. Very nice work so far.
thanks a bunch guys! this isnt my car so i dont have the final say on the back window. Ted wants small glass so his word is the law in my book haha! well i got a ton of welding done today and i wonder how i ever did this stuff with a mig now that everything is tiged the last weld after about 6 feet gonna do some looking now at different cars and a smaller back glass but not super tiny.
