Hi Fellow Hambers...I come to you to ask if the doors of a sedan like this: Would fit a coupe, like this ????
No, you need one from a fourdoor and then you will still have to fit the top of the door to the coupe.
The 4 door one will fit- but the top corner where the door closes will need to be cut and brought down a tad, maybe a half inch to fit. Coupe doors slope down in that area, 4 door sedans slope upwards. The door may not fit exactly at the belt line either. Not that big of a fix, but not a bolt on and go.
Does anyone have made this match between the 4doors and the coupe doors before? Does anyone have any pictures on it? Or a draw or anything? Im really interested in that kind of project...
There's a book on how to chop top were sam foose used these longer doors and it was a sweet looking car when it was done maybe a little searching and you could find it on line .
Fenders are the same. As many have said, 4 door sedan doors fit on a coupe when the top is trimed. My coupe has a sedan door on the left side. We just cut through where the skin overlaps on the top. Pulled the inside edge of the overlap back, then cut the outer door skin to fit the opening. Then re-fit the inner edge, welded it up, and metal finished it.
As said, a door from a 4-door will fit with minor rework. I used the same trick on my 36 5-window and it only took an hour or so to re-contour the top edge. The belt line is the same on 4-doors or coupes.
One more doubt is about the chassis...Would the different models(4doors, sedan, coupe etc..) share the same chassis?
They all share the same chassis including the pickup, however, the pickup chassis doesn't have the body mounts needed for the coupe or sedan. Those are available from Bob Drake.
You're good using any '40 front or '38 deluxe-40 rear fenders, same. The only rear fenders that won't work in those years are wagon and sedan delivery. You're good using any passenger chassis including sedan delivery or wagon. Pickup chassis is fine too, but you'll need to add passenger outer body mounts. Bob Drake now offers them in a complete 4-piece kit.
You can do the 2dr doors the way Sam Foose did on the "Magnum 40." He moved the B pillar back. Here's pics of it on Rikster's site: http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_...m_cars/sam_foose_build_cars/40_ford_coupe_by/ And it's semi-detailed construction is on page 102 of Tex Smith's How to chop tops book
I didn't know Bob Drake...Very good information...Very nice WebSite!...I just still dont understand if he ships internationally!!!
Im growing curious about the other years Ford models...What about the compatibility in between the 1933/34/35/36 Ford Models? Are the chassis and fenders the same for Coupes, Sedans, Roadsters etc...???
