if there was one to make into a flyer and risk losing it was this one. it never saw action besides being used as a test mule for pratt and whitney to mount engines in the nose.

None of the current flyers are combat veterans.

The Liberty Bell was owned by Pratt and Whitney here in CT for some time to do test flights. the liberty bell was then donated to the CT aircraft museum and the Liberty Bell was then partially wrecked when a tornado hit the musuem in '79. it was then purchased by the man who started the Liberty Foundation and restored her to her glory. Very sad to hear the news. thats horrible

Saw the news today about Liberty Bell. Very sad indeed. Saw that plane in person with my father a few years ago at the Des Moines airport. Was a good day, and made several good memories with my dad I'll always remember!! Aluminum Overcast is due here tomorrow. Making plans to see it tomorrow.

My shop is about a mile and a half from the end of the runway of the local airport. Had one of those fly out of here once. Shook the whole building.

  14. Bummer about Liberty Belle, one less of something there are so few of. We had Sentimental Journey at the Visalia airport this last week along with B-25 Maid in the Shade. Went out after hours for a couple of pix. ;)

Look for airshows in your area. There are shows all around the country. Well worth a couple hour drive to see them up close and in action! Seeing just one or two old warbirds flying overhead makes you wonder what seeing and hearing dozens of them must have been like.

You must have seen it right before it crashed ! It went down in a corn field in Oswego, and was consumed by fire ! All on board got out, uninjured.

  20. Heard about the Liberty Belle's crash the next dat after it happened. A very great lose!!!!!

I posted a thread about my son's ride on the L-Belle late last year. Thought it might be a good tribute to post the link to the pics again.

Crash was right down the street from home. Sad sight to see for sure. I don't think it is salvageable. Although I did read the engines are the most important for a rebuilt plane. Hopefully they'll be ok.

  27. wow thats cool (not the crash but the pics of the b-17)

Sweet pictures. I love those things. They fly over our house once in a while and it's awesome watching them. My dad flew for the army a while back.
