I think this is the one that was here in Seattle last year giving rides. Knew I shoulda' gone up. There's a Warbird museum at Paine field near where I work. I see some gorgeous planes flying low over our shop as they're coming in for a landing. B-17s, B-24s B-25s, B-26s, even a Mustang, Jug, or Spitfire from time to time. Hard to imagine the sky darkened with those magnificent machines.

I figure they'll try to rebuild it. I've seen'em build with much less. Just sad that it happened, but is a risk they always take whenever they fly these old girls.

I was at Pope AFB many years ago when the Memphis Belle came in for a show with one of the engines on fire. She was there for a very long time, but eventually flew away. Got to hang out a bit with some of the guys who were working on it, and even carried them some inflight kitchen meals (aka Box Nastys). It was a beautiful sight to see, and even cooler to hear.

    Just sad this happened.

I second that!!....The media blows everything way out from what really happened....I myself can't even stand to watch the damn news anymore, All they want to report about these days is which child got molested or killed some horrible way.....or how many women were beaten, Raped and killed.......My wife records it and then edits all the bad shit and comericals out for me every night.....leaves me about 5 mins of weather to watch and every once in awhile a little good stuff that slips through the cracks.....People ask me all the time if I heard about some tragidy on the news, And I say Nope!..And I don't want to either....

Above is the scene shortly after landing because of in-flight fire...certainly NOT a crash.

Above, it started going downhill quickly. Notice #2 engine feathered.

The above pic shows the ugly end...very sad. DD

  10. She buzzed over my house several times when she was here in town. Gave me goose bumps every time. Makes you proud to be an American. Sad day indeed.

  11. It so sad to see those old birds go up like that. The 17s are so rare. Glad no one was hurt.
It is amazing how the media can twist a story for their own purpose.

Really sad. Thankfully the crew crew all escaped injury. My grandfather was a lead bombardier on a B-17 out of Kimbolton, England flying missions with the 8th Air Force over Germany.

Man, that is a shame, glad no one got hurt. The Liberty Bell was the first B17 I ever flew on.

Oh man, that really sucks. Lots of time, money and love in that old bird...lots of broken hearts today. Rest in Peace Liberty Belle.

That was the "Kiki Bird". It was lost solely because of a "dumbass" by the name of Darryl G......! Left a portable generator unsecured in the rear while taxiing on rough terrain, in a hurry, and it turned-over and caught fire. DD

"Fifi" IS back in the air, not to be confused with the above-mentioned "Kiki Bird".
