classic, spam the mainboard, no intro, can't seem to understand the classifieds concept. hmmm.

  4. LOL, Great way to promote!

I went down sick the last few days but did manage to get some work done on my Helve Hammer. I redesigned the hammer arm and figured out the clamping mechanism for the spring and have cut out all the parts. Need to machine and assemble.

And Saturday I was able to stand tough through my chest congestion and hacking to build my crankshaft. I have to order a tap and some hardware before I finish welding and machining it though.

Maybe it was the 168 hour kind of zombieism...

  10. Compared to just about every Lancaster style machine I have ever seen, yeah, overkill.

Compared to an Ekold, not so much. Sheesh, you just gotta spoil my fun.

  12. And today I officially have a working helve hammer!

Last week I did get it working but it wasn't mounted to the floor and I had no other way to operate it than to ride it like a monkey, pushing the engagement lever on the motor with my foot. Great fun and for those who were watching on my live webcams, they got a helluva show!

Bolted down solid, greased up and working. Now I need to make some dies and get to work.

  13. Oh, and I have two shrinker/stretcher stands available. I have a PM for one of them waiting confirmation but the other is still available AND I will take orders for more.

Current pricing is $450.00 for a knock down kit with all the parts you need and $650.00 for an assembled unit. Still working on shipping costs, all sales so far have been local pickup.

Steve, you are a talented guy! That work on all of these pieces is great!

  19. Watch your fingers. It works amazing got to try it today.

  20. Been using the helve for a few months now. Been dead reliable and very easy to use. Been able to do planishing and shrinking with the few dies I have.

Made a set of tool holders last night to try and form a section of a 1932 Ford Commercial grill. My employee was struggling a bit to hand form the beaded lower section, it pushed me to make these things up. My first die set I wanted to just create the inside jog. I wasn't sure how effective the machine would be.

They dies are just 1/2" A36, I know they won't last long. The few bits I ran threw it they are already showing signs of wear. But long lasting tools aren't necessarily the point, it's getting the job done. The hammer performed very well, better than I expected. I made another set of dies with the full profile and ran a test piece through with excellent results.

Then cut a section of sheet and Joel tried to copy the curve needed. He let the material lop over the guide I put in to help hold the line. But for a second attempt it looks pretty close.

Here is a minute long video of Joel forming the piece above.

  21. I'd really like to put my finger in there.

does it need a fence of some sort? great look machine!

  24. Fence as in a safety guard? Or fence as in a guide for material?

Don't have a practical way for the former, but will be building the latter at a later date if needed.
