didnt 32s have a mounting plate instead of the fingers on the back? then again it has the "shark fin" shifter on it which from what i read on here is early. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_serialnumbers.htm
I was just messin' Larry... I was going to paste your thread url in there and tell you to match it up to the photos!!
Well it looks like a '32 handbrake & ratchet, and the shift tower looks right for '32. Case looks like for a Model B 4 cylinder. Rear mount is not '32, maybe '37-39? Looks like somebody already snarked the clutch arm...
Looks like the clutch arm is gone. Should be a long, slender thing. It was one year only of course, and one of two pieces - including the original rear mount - that I would want off a '32 B transmission. Will
The case looks right and the early shifter has the correct slight curve but the rear support isn't right for a 32.HRP
someone probably stuck a B motor in a 37-41 ish ford, that would explain the different rear mount, they all interechange off the back of the trans anyways.
the number that is stamped on the case near the inspection whole will indicate the year of manufacture.
Serial would be on the NEXT layer, a piece betwixt trans and block on B. Top '32 for sure...case used '33-4 too, but with a couple added notches that I do not see on yours...so all is '32 except rear mount. Clutch arm is a big chunk of value, very expensive now. See this site: http://www.fordgarage.com/ and find your way to actual pics of the difference between B castings, '32 and '33-4!
This would be true for a V8 but the 4 cylinder cars had the number stamped into a boss located on the flywheel housing (the piece between the transmission and the engine). Charlie Stephens
Henry never missed a chance to use up inventory. They'd use up all the stuff from the previous year before starting on the new stuff and if next year's parts started comming in they'd use those too if they were closer than the correct parts to the production line and they'd do the job. Bottom line for them was if it's handy and it fits, use it, don't hold up the line. Not saying that's what happened here but something to keep in mind when looking at old Ford stuff. The other half of this is there have been lots of mechanics and hot rodders over all those years to swap parts together to meet what they need.
