Projects Another Henry J project started

After driving a 53 Henry J with a small block Chev 40 thousand miles with original suspension and drum brakes, it's time to build a refined version of the same car. But i bought this one in 1967 and drove it when I was 16. It's time.
Here is a a pic of my old car and the start of my new car. i want to have it on the road by May 2011 and will post pics as I go along

 

First job was a Fatman front end. The rear is Maverick. The frame is not boxed from the axle back. The easiest way to box this was to cut the parts out of another HJ frame and presto perfect boxing plates This would work for any car

 

Maverick rear end needed pads moved in 1/4 inch on each side.and brake line block moved to HJ location As I go along some of this info might help some one

 

So what's going to power this one ?

 

It's been one month since I started this build Here are Nov. pics and I will post each month until I fire this up

Here is an update on my HJ I'm fixing rust and more rust but it's coming together You do what ever comes next and It works out Here is some pics

 

slam the car to the weeds add about a 750 horse smallblock ford or chevy and hold the hell on playboy.

 

Time for a little update. The floor is pretty much done, I had to rebuild up to 5 inches on each end of the door post Lots of work but each day is closer. I made 3 outriggers on each side , the factory used 2. The body is off the frame now and I installed a cowl to place the engine and trans. more later

Wow Now the floor is done and I put it back on the frame. Now a stock HJ frame you can put a small block Chev in about a day. Modernize with a fatman front clip and now there is no room for an engine unless you set it back alot. the crossmember is high and right at the sump. Now What ! I raised the trans tunnel 2 inches, cut the crossmember and made my oil pan Here is the pics

Used to be a guy down here in southern Ohio, that had a Henry with a 413, dual fours and a 3 spd. Had the engine set back far enough that the driveshaft was only about 10" long. Definite thrill ride when he'd punch it.

Progress on your J is looking good, getting closer to a spring time drive. I like looking at that some what stock firewall to see what mine should have looked like...lol

 

After 45 years there is some life back into my Henry J

Safe to say, you have the only Henry J in Prince George?...and Sunbeam Tiger??

 

Always fun to see other "J"s,Good Job,I had built mine in 1959 with a V8 olds as a dailydriver,then I cut the roof off and a lot of other stuff,it ended up as a show car in Car Craft in Jan.63.
