spindles

    why does everyone use 37-48 ford front spindles? whats wrong with 32-34 spindles?

    I think the cross steer and juice brake backing plate bolt holes are the main reason.

    The earlier spindle are just fine as spindles but almost nothing except the hydraulic brake adaptor kits to mount 39-48 brakes on them is available.
    The stub axle of the early spindles is longer than the 37-41 or 42-48 spindles and the backingplate flanges are smaller and use smaller fasteners.

    i am runing disc so backing plate are not a problem.

    The configuration with the thrust bearing works better after 37' (or so the story goes)

    thanks just wanted to know i have both and 32 lood good with factory steering arms.
     
  8. Since you said you are going to run disc brakes, you will find that you will probably have fabricate your own caliper brackets and figure out the bearing adapters. The common kits are made for '37-'48 spindles which have a different bolt pattern and
    register circle.
