It seems that Jones did have his favorite's. I think Paul Culley encouraged him to invite us. We would have been as competitive as Doug's Headers if we had boosted the timining to about 60. Don Kirby said John Garrison warned him not to run more than about 35 advance. In late 69, early 70 Ronnie tested it on 55 advance and won the Mr Chevrolet meet at Beeline 7.00 at 199. He ran his 72 Vega with 60 advance and no alky and ran 6.60's and I think his best speeds were around 216. His last run at KCIR was against Pisano's vega and Ronnie beat him but blew the engine. Jungle Jim was at the race and took the engine out of it while Ronnie went to his house in KCMO to get new rods and pistons. After not finding the right one' he had an epephany " As an independent with a chevy, I can no longer compete" and sold the whole operation. Great times though. Mike

Mutley, this brings back some memories of Don Kirby's Corvette Auto Parts Vette. He advised my brother on what to do with his 1st Blue Hell vette(which would most of the time travel 1500 feet to go down the 1320) We beat Kirby 2 outa 3 at Stardust Raceway in 66.I think Larry Faust was driving but it might have been Pat Foster. Thanks Mike

WOW !!! I don't think I'll live long enough to get to the end of this thread (I'm on PG. 120) But can I get some help locating some pics of the late Stan Bowman and his Flying Dutchman, AA/A or F/Cs, This is where I got started into cars at 9 years old, polishing those ol Halibrands. There is so much here it's overwhelming, what a site. If I ever get a chance to retire I might get to the end of this thread, GREAT pictures and lots of memories, like my first national event, AHRA at D-42 when Shirly burnt up her F/C, I was a kid and I saw Stan again on Monday and told , WOW I SAW HER ON FIRE AND HAD JUST SAW HER IN THE PITS and Stan says yep, she has big TITS don't she. Hell I didn't know what tits were back then.
I'm much better now !! kinda Gordon

Here's one of Stan's. The AA/FA back in the day racing Dad.
I took this shot from our push car in the staging lanes at
    Q-City I think. Enjoy! - Smoke.

Howdy Bucksnort, this photo reminds me of the time we raced at Charoltte oval track in 69. It was the 1/8 mile portion of the track and we raced Pete Gates and beat him. I drove the car hauler to retrieve Rapid Ronnie and was on a 27 degree bank. When Ronnie climbed out of the car he almost rolled into the pits! It sure was fun back in those days when there were no constraints and rules. KEEP UM COMING. Mike

COOL, Thats the car !!! Stan is behind the wagon and thats Jane Fleicher seated, her husband Mike fueling ( or adding water) the car and Dave " the dude" checking the air pressure.
First time I saw Stan run was amatch race at D-42 with Wild Willie Borsh.
