who says a gasser can't be a good driver? It is all about the setup. Ask Gasser Louie, he drives his car quite a bit. Although not very rapidly.

Whatever you do, go with your heart. This isn't a popularity contest, it is all about having fun and following your dream.

Perfect gasser materiel. You've saved yourself about a years worth of body work just starting with a clean example.
Build it right and there will be no problem driving it on the road. A friend of mine,Dan Lockwood, built a '40 Willys,392 hemi,6-71 blower, dual quads, torqueflite, straight axle (traditional gasser stance) and drove it from Michigan to the west coast to compete in the first Asphalt Egorama and back again with the only glitch a broken alternator retainer bolt. You've got to share how this one goes together when you get around to building it.

I'm not a "gasser" fan man. Make it your own but please don't chase a fad.

  7. Great looking 55, I would swap out the 6 and the std trans, and not another thing, Great stance as is ,reminds me of my 55,,,,Sam

Boschma, I know whatever you do to it, you'll do first class- I dig the look right now, but the pic of the red car all set up is cool- there is a rootbeer brown one on one of the Hotrod Havoc films that I love! But as of now the Black and Gold 55 Austin built that was at GNRS is my favorite 55 to date! (my $.02)
Nice find! Gerrit and Case are going to LOVE it, but you'ld better get to work on the Honey-do's and used toy sales so Mama loves it too!

  11. Man... I'd have a hard time trying to muster up the energy to do anything to that car. I say drive it like it is.

    Neat car...

we do gassers, I say do it, nothing like a decent car to start with. and as for driving them , they drive fine. just build it for how you want to use it. some all out race stuff isnt the best idea on a streetable one. Bring it to me and it will be standing however you want in a short time..... good luck and enjoy ....................

Nice looking car as is but it's yours. You need to build it the way you want and enjoy it and if some people don't like who cares it only matters if you like it. I can see your boy loves it

Could I be a be impertinent and ask for a guide as to what a car like that goes for?

Reason I ask is that I have recently sold my 56 and am looking for a really solid 55 to have some fun in. Having done the full body off, replace floor, trunk, rockers quarters etc etc etc I think you have made the right desision to get the best car you possible can and then just build what you want.

Shortens the project cycle and keep you enthused!

Have to say that looks an absolute cracker, your little guy reminds me of mine

Looks like a real nice start to whatever you want to build! It buzzed past me on the way to Austin looked pretty good going down the road. Good luck with it!

Roadfarmer gas the hell out of it !! Start with the best you can afford and it gets done faster with better results.

  25. Whatever you do with it, it's a damn fine looking car - it's my favorite "tri-5" Chevy - have fun and post a build thread, please!

  26. Gas it and leave the paint like it is.

Its your car - proceed as planned. I think you are quite smart in buying a solid car so as to avoid tons of rust repair and body work. Follow your dreams and ignore the nay sayers!
