Hi, I has to restore a 1950 Ford F1 from my uncle in this year, but which color would you prefer, if the F1 were yours? Thanks in advance. Best regards Marcel
Out of those options I really like the gloss grey, but if i t were mine I would go with a pearl white, leave the wheels red, and put some lancer caps on 'em...
I'm also building an F1, although It's far from paint the gloss gray and dark brown are on my short list. From these i say gray.
I vote grey. That was the color I wanted for my '49, but it ended up a little lighter. Andno tailgate louvers either.
If you plan to restore it the choice of colour is easy: The one that it was painted from the factory! I'm sure that remains of its original colour can be found somewhere... The choices for 1950 was: M-14197 Silvertone Gray M-14283 Meadow Green M-14285 Sheridan Blue M-14341 Palisade Green M-1722 Vermillion M-1724 Black it is also possible, but a bit more rare, that it was painted a special color ordered by a customer, for instance Coca-Cola. I would not go for a louvered hood or louvered tailgate. The tailgate with the Ford Scrip is a peice of beauty and louvers on the hood would mess up the design as well... If you will build a rod or custom out out it, then you have a world of colours to choose from! My favorite for a 48-50 F-1 is dark blue as the F-1 of the cover on the book "Ford F-series Pickup trucks 1948-50" by Don Bunn. I higly recommend that book for some inspiration. So much inspiration that I recently brought a F-1 myself! Mine is bronze metallic btw...
My grandfather's was a kinda muddy green..don't know tha ford-name for it but I like it..alot. That said, I REALLY like the gray.
i would go the darker gray fenders, lighter gray on the body and the bright red on the wheels and pinstripe. no louvers!
