I recently put a new motor in my project; the same motor it had, just a brand new version. Well here is my question for any of you that know a thing or two about automatics. I have a C4 and when I manually turn the motor to line up the bolt holes with the transmission It changes the gear that my car is in. I literally can watch my column shifter change position and it takes it from park and puts it in neutral. I have talked to a few folks that know quite a bit but most say they have never heard of that before. Can anyone give me some possible insight on this situation?
    Thanks.

explain more to exactly what you are doing. tuning the motor to line up what bolts? for torque converter? why is the shifter connected f not finished installing trans? have seen running cars have trouble with the column shifter control rod rubbing against body due to broken motor mount.

disconnect your shifter and any other wires, lines when a yankin', tuggin' on the cases....

if those are disconnected, then stop banging the head/header against the firewall side of the column shifter...
