How does this sound Super t10 Nodular Iron Case $250.00 but it pops out of third should I pass or grab it??? 27
If it will work for you it is a good deal.It probably needs synchros and freshening. They are fairly strong transmissions. ROY.
Grab it if you can rebuild it. There are a few things to looks for. If its a 82-84 F body trans, the rear trans mount is at an angle for those cars. You would have to make a custom trans crossmember to match the angle. If its from an 80-81 F-body, it will have a standard trans mount. It also will be the 3.42 1st gear, the weakest gear set. I think its rated for 275 ft-lbs but I would have to check. Try to get the yoke with it since it should be the large TH400 yoke. The factory shifters are junk - go with a hurst. It should take a 26 spline clutch. Parts are not too expensive for a standard rebuild, but most shops really gouge you on the labour. The rebuild kit is about $150-200, and usually at least another $500 for labour. If it needs gears or shift forks, watch out - they are pretty pricey. I have a friend who has a trans shop who rebuilds these transmissions pretty cheap. In good usable shape, these transmissions usually get $500-600. I am in toronto - if you don't want it, I will grab it I have this exact trans in my 67' Camaro with its little 230ci six. The deep first gear makes it pretty peppy with the 3.08 rear gears.
If its a true Super T10 grab it, they can be hammerd on better than most muncies do to the cast iron case and the gears. Make sure its not just a cast iron low horse borg.
U sure it's a Super T-10 and not just a plain-jane T-10? Supers had 26 clutch splines and big TH400 rear yokes.
If it's a 904 case it's nodular iron. Also, the number of rings on the input shaft indicate what gear set is in it. Mine has the two ring input which is a 2:64 first gear ratio. I've hammered on it pretty good and no problems yet . Also, an iron mid-plate will help in the strength department as well.
